GBA Micro
Hey fellas,
I am going to buy a GBA. But i'm going to have to rely on your opinion as to which one. Should i buy a GBA SP or a GBA Micro? Do any of you actually own a micro and how is it, compared to the SP? Would any of you advise for or against buying the Micro (i'm almost going for that one based on gadget value alone).
Please, don't turn this into a "Micro is ghey" "PSP RoXorS" thread. Please don' t tell me to get a DS instead, i would love to but i only have about 30€ to spend (together with store credit and "saved points" the total amount will be almost 100€, hence no DS)
So please, if any of you own a micro, or know anyone who owns a micro... inform me!

Both are slick-looking pieces of technology.
I recommend the GBA micro over the SP, though. The d-pad on the SP does not stand out enough. It's just too ...shallow (? is that the right word here?). I found precise movement on the GBA SP quite difficult at times, especially if you try to move diagonally. Plenty of deaths in Gradius Advance and many unnecessary hits in Zelda resulted from this. The d-pad and buttons on the micro are excellent, although the shoulder buttons (which are fine on the SP) are only so-so. The screen of the micro, while a bit smaller, is much sharper and brighter than that of the SP.
So, if you don't want to play b/w and Gameboy Color games and are content with the GBA games library, I'd say you should get a micro.

The SP now has a new screen which is apparently just about as good as the one on the micro. The original SP screen, whilst miles better than the original GBA screen, is a little washed out so colours aren't as great as they could be.Herr Schatten wrote: The screen of the micro, while a bit smaller, is much sharper and brighter than that of the SP.

Will this "new backlit" GBASP become available in Europe?Ste wrote:The SP now has a new screen which is apparently just about as good as the one on the micro. in march i heard, but since nintendo of europe sucks giant amounts of cock you never know.Platypus[gEc] wrote: Will this "new backlit" GBASP become available in Europe?
gba micro is a waste of technology, but id like to try the new SP.

I would definitely go with the micro. I have an SP and 2 micros and definitely find the d-pad and buttons on the micro to be nicer. It's also surprisingly comfortable to hold and play, despite it's size and the fact that I have big hands.
All that said, the SPs with the new brighter screen are beautiful as well. Either way I'm sure you'll be happy :)

The new SPs also come in two new colours: pearl blue and uh.. graphite something? I dunno.
Also, while the new SPs have nice, bright, and vivid screens, the refresh rate isn't too hot, so there's a bit of blurring when there's movement. Apparently, this isn't a big deal to anyone, cos everytime I bring it up on a forum it gets ignored.
But just letting everyone know. In case someone pays attention.

I am paying attention Moogs. I'm here for yaMoogs wrote:In case someone pays attention.

March... dammit... i'm buying this with a coupon that's valid till the end of this week... sigh (which is why the DS is not an option, i've got 30€ to spend -not a penny more- and the coupon is worth 70€)
Also
You actually had this problem vagrant? Or is this another "assumption" because the screen is too small? Weird thing is: most people that react to this topic (i've got one going on every board i visit) that actually have one say the screen size is ok. Anyway: i spend 12 hours a day in front of a PC screen, I HAVE NO EYES LEFT!!The vagrant wrote:if you dont value your eyes and like headaches, sure, micro is the way to go.

Thanks for the head up, both of you.

From what I gather of European pricing, it might be cheaper for you to buy an American SP (and I recommend the SP as well).
Pearl Blue is nice... I have an older Pearl Blue SP from Japan and it was all special but now anybody can go to Walmart and buy one that even has a nicer screen than mine ;____________;

I happen to use a DS for my GBA stuff, but if I needed a GBA for any reason I'd probably go with one of the backlit SPs. The Micro is a pretty nice system, and I found the screen to be just fine even with my bad eyes, but I think I'd have problems with the controls given the small size. I'll probably end up getting a DS Lite when it comes out to save wear and tear on my other DS (which is autographed by Reggie.)

Yeah... i only own GBA games, so that won't be a problem.extrarice wrote:Remember that the Micro does not play GB/GBC games, like the SP.
The micro does not connect to the cube like the normal GBA does... and that is a real "-" for the micro...

You might want to go for an older DS after all, the new one might have important features removed
