Whats nextgen and new?

Are there any PS4 games that are nextgen but you feel its completely fresh and not done to death?

Please exclude anything with FPS modes, games where shooting over 80% of the time is the order of the day or sports.

Looking forward to the Witness next year.

I don't know anything about this Phantasy Star 4 business but Mewgenics is definitely the next gen

I like a lot of the stuff on WII U and 3ds to be honest.

Xenoblade Chronicles X looks very fun, and Bayonetta 2 is probably one of the best 3d action games I've ever played.

Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates give me hope for the future of gaming. They stay true to the franchises old, arcadey style, but add some smart innovations that don't interfere with the core appeal.

I'm only interested in Bloodborne and Nier: Automata on Ps4 otherwise though.

Firewatch sounds hugely interesting. So does the Pathologic remake (new to consoles). Both FPP, but not shooting games.

Nexgen is a meaningless term when each new game is actually less complex and difficult than the last one.

For a game of this type i don't think innovation matters. Has anyone ever got tired of baseball or football always being the same?

Yeah, but most people haven't. Likewise for, say, chess. Not to say that all shmups ought to be the same but there's no point in pretending the basic formula ought to change.

At the other end of the spectrum, my complaint is that many games are sort of shoddily reimplementing nature on PC hardware, which I suppose is great if you're wheelchair bound or it's winter and you want to see some leaves. But it is bad for actually getting off your butt, exercising, and actually seeing real nature in a way that doesn't cost oodles of power use.

I certainly don't mind games that bring us closer to nature, or use it as a backdrop, but Firewatch in particular sounds like another take on the Ethan Carter idea, which is basically to try and fit something naturally beautiful into a game, with a mostly ugly result.

I expect Firewatch to be more about how the job felt like... before the internet. Someone I know used to work like that by the way. I played quite a few of my favourite games most in my times of doing something in the vein of their playable character's occupation for the living.
I happened to be on some nightwatch duties as a security guard and as much as I enjoyed Nattevagten, I don't think an hour-and-a-half-long feature film has what it takes to do the job justice. Computer game not only has it, but gives dialogue and character development as much room as necessary for the story to flourish.

I went through all the youtubes online that depict gameplay of the above mentioned games and I Don't really see anything that I want in my stocking filler.

At the moment Until Dawn and Drive Club seem to qualify as games I want, but do not qualify under this subject.

Wouldn't it be same if you could look up gameplay vids on YouTube in the eighties or nineties?
The biggest difference I recall is that screenshots in magazines were small (because blown up looked pretty ugly) and when videos finally arrived... they looked even nastier.

The reason for this thread is to find stuff I couldn't find using keywords in google or youtube. Whenever I go to the big forums things like Destiny seem to hog the top spot for about a decade and if someone does start a thread about something different it gets knocked down pretty quickly.

Most of the oddball games get zero advertising budget, PSN seems to bury them under a host of sports and shooting titles, add ons and such. Plus, I am not really in the gaming scene anymore so rely on word of mouth.

Really i'm after the Ico type stuff. I know of Rime and The Last guardian but they are way off.

Then in early 2016 the Witness looks really good and seems to be a game that is very much in a mould of its own. I want to play games where people watching can help out too. If its action based only, being a spectator is just that. You cannot intervene or change the outcome or speed in which things are accomplished.

I bought my PS4 on launch day and I've put about 15-20 hours on it so far. Its about time I started playing it.

How about Toren?
I always thought of Ico as Another World done better in 3D and, to be fair, I don't think it's ever been much represented a "genre". Although the Prince of Persia series did try.
