Please help with PVM 14M4E selection

Post by Bubel »

Hi guys!
I want to get couple of PVM 14M4E but person who going to buy it for me does not know how to check them.
Please give me advise who own the same model - how to enable test grid to check picture quality and how to quickly access menu with hours monitor worked.
What is normal warming up time? What year of production was for this model?
Step by step instruction would be great!

I don't believe PVMs have a built-in test grid (none of the ones I've seen do). The test grid you commonly see being used here is from Artemio Urbina's 240p test suite, a homebrew "game" available for most retro consoles.

Many PVMs don't have the hours used count anywhere (my 14L2 doesn't), and I don't see anything about that in the user manual for the 14M4E.

To enter the service menu, you can try holding "ENTER" and then pressing "DEGAUSS". It may not work on that model.

I don't have a service manual for that model, but here is the user manual:

EDIT: If the manufacturing date is listed anywhere, it would be on the rear sticker.

I've got one of these. It's a really good monitor, but it doesn't have a test grid or an hours menu. You enter the service menu by first pressing 'menu' and then 'enter' and 'degauss'. You can get near-perfect geometry on my particular unit. Crisp as hell, too.

I'd guess the 14M4E series is going to be somewhere between 1997-2004, probably closer to the earlier part of that time.

Get a cheap little DVD player and a test disc (Spears & Munsil, Avia, Video Essentials, whatever) or a games console that you're going to play, and just look it up. A game console will be a better fit if it's your use scenario.

Normal warm-up time should be just seconds to get a usable picture.
