Keio Yuugekitai/Keio Flying Squadron [Mega CD]

Post by Perikles »

This should be the last Mega CD game since Winds of Thunder and Dennin Aleste already have a comfortable home here. No way I'm not going to create a thread for this lovely game. :)

You would be very wise not to underestimate Keio Flying Squadron - sure, it looks like your typical Flying Hero/Ordyne/Battlemania, but it has a mean streak in it. It'll rip unaware players to pieces in no time at all, as it should be. Image And even knowledgeable players can find themselves in a terrible situation after a tiny mistake, so stay vigilant!

One of the incredible perks to this game is the multitude of options: you can tinker with the amount of lives, with the speed and even the position of your hitbox. Since I'm going to assume that we're not going to see too many entries I'd say we just leave everything at the default settings, unless someone explicitly wants to play it differently. Other difficulty settings than Medium/Human are fine, of course. One credit only, as always.

Please post your scores like this:

Will definitely try to improve this. I didn't even find many of the hidden extends and made a few silly mistakes which cost me quite a few points.

That could've easily been 600,000 points and more if not for my lamentable tendency to accidentally pick up the wrong weapons and thus destroying 4,000 points. I also died at silly places, but I'll take it for now.

There are a few things I'm still uncertain about, though:

1. Is there any particular reason why I'm never able to destroy the last waggon in the third stage even when I'm fully powered up? I place my dragon options properly inside the waggons and do considerable damage, but the last part always survives the onslaught which forces me to sacrifice a dragon in order to survive the collision. Not a big deal, yet very odd.

2. How does one trigger the extra life in the fifth stage? I'm almost certain it has to do with the amount of destroyed missiles, I'd love to hear a definitive answer if someone has one.

3. Speaking of additional lives: are there some of these in stages 4 and 7? I couldn't find any.

I thought it was impossible to destroy the last waggon but I managed to destroy it this time.
With full multi-way weapon and full birds option.

Great to see some activity! Keio is such a charming game, deserves every little bit of attention it gets. :)

Thanks for the information, that's certainly interesting. I use(d) the straight shot in conjunction with the multi-directional bombs as they seem to do the most damage in a lot of situations. But I'd imagine that you dish out more devastation in that particular spot since it is possible to point-blank the waggon. Neat find! :)
