I think this might get zero replies but the bank I work for has a huge office campus in Greenville, SC (upstate SC). I been living in FL for over ten years and I feel like I could use a change of scenery and plus the office campus has a hell a lot more career advancement opportunities than the small office I'm working in Jax, FL. Pay won't be the best up there however I'll take the chance to move plus career advancement opportunities any day of the week (plus can get some underwriting, risk/audit skills in the process).
I heard great things about Greenville and I saw pictures of the city, really really nice. However I don't know too much about Upstate SC and I don't know much about SC in general. So any tips or advice would be appreciated (and thus I made a thread there).
I am aware of the income tax and the stupid car property tax per year cost, but I go on CL and researched apartments and I see cost of living is lower than Jax.
Any current/former SC residents?

Greenville is definitely growing in many ways, and the cost of living is low. Downtown is pretty awesome, and if nothing else, you'll be close enough to Asheville, NC, to attend shmupmeets when I start having them here!

I heard great things about its Downtown, but what brought you to NC from NYC (I think you came from Brooklyn?)?jasoncslaughter wrote:Greenville is definitely growing in many ways, and the cost of living is low. The move will be in about 1-2 years if it does happen. When it does then my weekends will be working a lot of hours. Job that I'm looking to do a lot of weekend work.

SC...no experience. I have an ex that lives there, and she thinks it's great.
I am familiar with some of NC, and found it to be really nice. Then again, I didn't live there...but I was impressed upon visiting.
It reminded me of where I live. Except with civilization. And not the "northern" type, where no one talks to each other, and everything is metal and concrete. Nice vibe, overall.

Sounds good so far.
I just applied for the job via the company's website. We shall see...... Impulse move however they are looking for about 80 people to do the same job plus they are having a hard time filling in the spots.

Washington Heights, actually. I'm originally from Asheville, and I've had a house down here for a few years. The music scene is incredible - the last time I visited before I moved, I went to a show where a bunch of the guys who played with Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart did some ridiculous versions of those tunes, then immediately went to a punk jazz show and found that everyone from the first show was in the audience for the second one, musicians included. It's the kind of community support that I just didn't experience in New York. Also, a friend of mine who teaches at one of the local universities said they had work for me if I moved, and I got tired of paying so much for rent (my rent was supposed to go up to $2500 a month if I had stayed) and having to take a train for 45 minutes just to practice. Basically, a lot of factors came together to influence my decision, and I'm glad I made it.Domino wrote:I heard great things about its Downtown, but what brought you to NC from NYC (I think you came from Brooklyn?)?

Greenville has changed so much in recent years (all for the better), and in a couple of years I imagine it will be even better!
