I don't have the facilities to burn stuff, but judging from the opinions I've read the game sounds pretty good, I think I might be willing to risk nabbing the full version once it's out...always good to support an able doujin developer after all.

There are several programs to convert the cdi format. Search for cdi2nero, cdi2bin or cdi2iso
DC + .cdi + Disc Juggler = Win

I am sure you know someone who could help burn the Demo, right? It's more than worth the effort and after playing you'll be even more convinced to purchase the full version. :)

On the contrary, DC + Alcohol 120% full + any cd image format= the win

Thanks heaps for all your comments and reactions – I’m delighted at the feedback!

This post is to warn you that Drill may present some incompatibilities with a few Dreamcast series. I uploaded a new iso onto the site, which should correct the problem. No change gamewise though – so if Drill runs fine on your Dreamcast, no need to download it again.

So far I'm liking it. A few things to note:

1. The character control is smooth.
2. The weapon system is somewhat unique - that's a plus.
3. The colors (backgrounds) are somewhat bland - you might want to spruce them up more.
4. The anime style characters are good, though for some reason the military commander reminds me of the guy who does all the dialogue in Iridion 2...
5. I could do w/o the swearing in the dialogue.
6. The character itself in-game is actually quite large, though I didn't notice a direct relationship to the hitbox. You might think about shrinking the character down slightly & defining the hitbox a bit more.

I'll be curious to see how the final product turns out & w/ some improvements I'd be willing to plunk down money for a final product.

BTW, I used cdi2nero to convert the image & burned it w/ Nero 5.5 & it booted up just fine. My DC is a bit flaky - sometimes it won't even boot actual commercial game CD's, but after a reset they will. Same thing here - it didn't recognize the disc @ first, but once it reached the menu where I could choose "Play" it booted up fine. It's that way w/ almost all the SBI format DC stuff I've burned as well. I guess that's what I get for only paying $5 for my DC @ a garage sale!

I could jump on that as well. Would be nice if a donator could be found in Europe so I won't have to pay quite that much for the shipping.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I can burn a few copies for other people in the US, but I don't do PayPal (I'll cover my own shipping costs in the continental US, but no international shipping). In other words, the first, say, 3 people in the lower 48 who PM me their address will get a free copy, free shipping.

Coming from someone who constantly shared DC scene releases (yeah, you hate me, I'm sorry etc.), I politely disagree. Alcohol's alright, but Disc Juggler's best for DC. This has been common knowledge for years, people...

I was of the ilk that was not able to get Drill to run sucessfully from th intital download. The new .CDI file called Drill001.cdi worked on my machine. [The original was called drill.cdi]

I made 3 coasters in my first efforts :)

Promo Trailer

Post by OneEyedJack »

http://www.drill.rr.nu/

There is a Drill promo trailer available at the website. It is about 74 mb (71 MB)

It is an advertisement for the game, and disappointingly it shows no new levels, or sneak peeks of what is to come. I was hoping for hints at the new levels.
The vid was released on Jan 23.

Just watched the demo video and was completely blown away. Drill is gorgeous in every aspect and the bullet patterns are remarkable, you are quite a talented team. It would really be a shame if this was never released or finished. I particularly like the waves of enemies are flow together in a snake like fassion, very creative design and crisp colors and explosions.

we made thid demo for fun, and surely in order to gain money (the demo is totally free!! if we were paid 1euro by download, we would have been rich... for a month^^).

but the demo finished, we have discussed... and we don't have enough free time (we all have full job)... so we decided to continue if somebody (as a publisher) could .. assure the future of drill..

(it's hard to explain in english.. sorry!)

if you are looking for an offcial publisher for the dreamcast version of your game, I'm willing to say with 100% certainty you will not find one.

japanese publishers won't touch you because the graphics aren't strong enough, the character designs aren't to their standards and the main fact, simply because you're not japanese, the only thing the game really has going in your favour is the bullet handler.

a western publisher won't touch a DC title for obvious reasons.

your best bet is to do a PC port and sell online.

oups i think you didn't understand me.. or I can't explain^^

We don't want to be paid or published absolutely!! a homebrew publisher contacted us...

we wanted to use DRILL demo as a curiculum vitae.. we didn't want to be engaged by CAVE!!

we just wanted to see if someone in the world could think "this is the FIRST game of these three french guys... perhaps we could make something with us^^"

but we'll possibly continue this fantastic gameeee!!!!!!!!
but not for today... tomorrow perhaps?

maybe you should skip the publisher, get the game finished, and sell it via bmtmicro or another online content provider, and cut out the middleman?

a homebrew publisher can shift products, but as far as a shooter is concrened, you have the core audience here, on these kind of forums... and can easily advertise on them and word spreads..

it means you'll have to finish it without pay, but the only difference is you'll see the money later as opposed to an advance (if any) while developing..

Why not just make it a Flash game and put it on newgrounds? It's already on par with Alien Hominid, so there's your competition right there! Also.... seriously.... she moves TOO SLOW... even when you're not shooting... ...*wishes he saved that CD-R* Not to bash needlessly-- I simply found it impossible at times to destroy all things onscreen. Almost like Homura, only in Homura you actually had a decent speed while not firing.

Or why not just sell it yourselves? I would certainly buy it, and I'm sure plenty of others on this site would! You could also sell it on some Dreamcast sites.

I knwo there would be an avenue to sell it, however It would be a share of sales profit.

It would be a shame if you guys dont finish the game as it looks great, but i also havea dayjob/ life which slows down my own DC shooter work

If you charged for the game, I would pay for. However you will not find a real publisher who will make the game with a physical distribution medium.

Just sell the game yourself using your website!

What about trying the Goat Store?

This guy has published a few homebrew DC games: Feet of Fury, Inhabitants, Cool Herders & Maqiupai. I reckon that'd be your best shot. GoatDan who runs the show posts over on Digital Press and seems a pretty sound guy. I've no idea what sort of deal he'd offer you guys but you may as well give him a try.

I really want to play Drill.
