MS Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - episode 1

At last a decent TV gundam ?

Last series I so~so liked was 00, bet this one will do ok too: war, politics, drama, mecha, and sadly still lots of teenage but slightly more aged than the 'usual' shonen protagonists (some of them seem to be about 16 to 19 maybe ? or it's just the artist's style dunno), also barely any sissy~kiddy stuff in view, a relief.
Of course I don't expect Front Mission or Votoms level of bleakness, violence and despair, but I couldn't bear to watch any of those Gundam-for-kids shites produced these past years.
(I'm already too old even for the most seinen~like Gundam they would ever dare to produce anyway, ha ha)
Art and animation seem average for a TV anime, still acceptable (the Gundam looks fucking buff, it's Jean-Claude Gundamme!) and the music sounds okay too.

Out of sudden urge to watch anything anime for a change, I dug out the 2002 Kanon TV show (pretty random pick; a fansubbed rip has been lying around for years, never watched before).

Image

I understand how deus ex machina comes with the turf, but some of it didn't make even the anime sort of sense to me. I couldn't help but grin watching the majority of it, though, therefore I've carried on and now, 8 episodes in, it reminds me of Uta~Kata (I might re-watch the latter soon, never mind the porny character designs). Anybody knows about any more like either? Mahoromatic? Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou?

Some of the Kanon's male protagonist's behaviour and his jokes baffle me - again - even by the anime standards. Those may actually be the most socially realistic depicted there, from what I heard of Japan.

I just finished watching Needless. It desperately needed a 2nd season due to the sheer awesomeness, and the generally hasty wrap-up. Though that probably won't happen due to the fact that it came out quite awhile ago.

This just goes to show that open ended does not mean sequel confirmed. Despite that, I fucking loved it.

Oh god that artstyle. Those faces can open tin-cans for sure!
If you at all liked Kanon, check out the 2006 remake by Kyoto Animation. I haven't watched it since it aired, and Key's stuff never really was for me but I remember the visuals and atmosphere, which was simply something else at the time.

I couldn't make it through Clannad but somehow managed Kanon. It must've done something right I suppose....

Living Game by Mochiru Hoshisato is monumental. When I started reading it A.D. 2011, the old-men's-type 15 year old female could have seemed like thrown in mostly for the sake of suspense, yet she would so strikingly resemble certain rustic girls at my then-workplace I knew it was one to read through at some point.
Then sudden things happened and I practically forgot about the title (untypical of me, but neither were the circumstances). It came up when I was talking with a fellow manga reader lately, so I spent the last couple of days reading hard and reminiscences flooded in. Must be the same for everyone past certain age, but I mean it: people I've met in my very life, complete with hats and spectacles, are pretty much in Living Game.
Highlighting any points wouldn't do much good since, well, everobody must have their own itchy spots to scratch with it, but other than the aforementioned female

Image, the image of rooms inhabitated by the protagonist stayed with me alongside De Niro's house from Heat like the epitome of their Snow White state of mind.
I say if you are looking for something to indulge in for a day or two, it's right there. Rarely padded or flat out poorly drawn, makes for testimony to certain ever-lasting qualities of our ever-bendy ways.

Oh yeah, Living Game is pretty great!

I think I might've mentioned it a couple of pages back even. I discovered it around last winter/this early spring and it reminds me I never actually finished it - think I got pretty far into it though.
At that time I was just about to move out from my parents house and into an apartment for the first time, so all the focus on moving and apartment life really hit home with me.
I thought it was really fun and interesting manga and it's a recommend read for anyone interested!

Of course, it might also help if you're hopelessly into 80s and 90s aesthetics

The most retro aspect of Living Game is the scarcity of mobile phones. Some situations might not make sense for the readers born when everybody had at least one.

I think I know what 2002 TV Kanon did for me, but it's hard to explain without resorting to language I would rather not use.
Admittedly, "the anime sort of sense" I referred to erlier on does emerge and all the asinine eventually falls into place. Even when male protagonist comes as a right pillock, it's in a way authentic because, really, who doesn't every now and then?
I'm not quite comfortable with the very ending, but it's open to debate why so and I'm not gonna spoil it for you right here.
The dude's teasing small-breasted women on the subject, though, is where my willing suspension of disbelief is not at. Can this particular topic be within Japanese small talk zone, or could the dialogues writer had possibly been that far out of any other ideas?

Well, after binge-watching Hellsing Ultimate, I think I've seen enough gore to last me a year or three. Watching dudes play out a musou game with vampires/soldiers/etc is felt like half the run-time of the entire show or more. The end body-count is too much to count (even with the numbers they throw at you at the end), but what I really want to know is the cigarette count. Integra probably went through at least three grand worth the things on her own.

I decided to reread all of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure from the top.
I've forgotten a ton of shit, hot damn. I'm really enjoying Part 1 more this time than the last time around.

also, this time I'm seeing it in color :D
Seeing it in color really makes it pop with life, it's so great. A real treat.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Started and finished (up to the current chapter, at least) Historie. Author also made Parasyte, correct? Anyway, superb story so far. Pity the delay between chapters.

Checked out the first two episodes of Gangsta anime set in a fictional European city (there are 12 episodes that make up Season 1)...interesting premise with the Handymen characters and their background lore of the "Tags" fighting it out to the death. If this was done with a live-action type of overall presentation, it'd be considered ultra-violent indeed.

The manga Otaku no Musume-san was an incredibly entertaining page turner with lots of likable characters(at least until the last third where some weird "development" occurs)

Just watched Yu-Gi-Oh! King of Games. It's some sort of earlier version of the original series made in the 90s (I think) that features a multitude of games instead of just one. Kaiba also has green hair for whatever reason. Overall it was alright, but the reason to watch it is seeing Shadow Yugi dominate his opponent in whatever game is being played. It was interesting, and the end was pretty much the famous battle of Yugi vs Kaiba featuring Exodia. The last five episodes with evil Bakura feel a bit tacked on, even though they were kinda cool. The series would've ended on a much more satisfying note otherwise.

I feel like rewatching the original series now. It's like 200+ episodes though so I'm not sure it's worth it.

Better read the manga instead. More consistent art and less filler crap.

On the subject of this, i started reading Cesare. It's based on this fellow:

Very nice if you are interested in the Renaissance period.

Started watching Katanagatari as I've heard it's got a reputation.

Well that's a really unusual one, the art style, 50mn lenght format, and the fact that it feels more like an actual chanbara/jidaigeki tv show in peculiar modern anime form.
Hard to explain.

Only watched ep 1, it's nice but man do they chat a lot !
The short action sequences though are stellar.

Started Darker Than Black this past week. I'm enjoying it I guess. More so than the last random checkout from the library, Gunslinger Girl. Is the second season also episodes split into 2 parts? I figured 26 self-contained episodes, but through disc 1, season 1 seems to be 45min episodes split into 2 parts for time I guess.

I just finished the series. the ova episodes are amazing as well, and the second series is alright, but still good, even if it's a little on the short side.

And no, none of what I watched was 45 minute episodes. That seems a little strange.

All episodes on disc one are labeled as part 1 and part 2, but are the normal anime running length.

ep12 will feature the Boros 'fight'.

Noticed they've started an OVA telling about the pre-hero/freak Saitama.

PS: still watching Katanagatari, it's good but really the very long chatty scenes make it kind of chore to watch.

Started binge watching Kuroko's Basketball
I was expecting fujoshibait yaoi fanservice in a basketball package, but instead I got mad tense basketball matches where you can never be too sure who wins or not.
It doesn't go full shonen with the powerlevels (AFAIK), and I liked that the Generation of Miracles weren't some one-dimensional douchebags (for the most part) and would undergo some actual character development
It rekindled my love for sports anime even though I dislike sports, and I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone

Saw Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist. Yet another anime cut short by an improvised rushed ending. It even pulls that bullshit amnesia trope to boot. I will say absolutely nothing else about it because I'm sick of this bullshit. If you don't go all in, don't make an anime at all.

Really one of the most atrocious examples of not spending any money and not giving a damn is the climatic battle in Brynhilder in the Darkness. It's supposed to be epic, with holes blown through bodies, antimatter blasts fucking up the city... and the entire thing was replaced by a 8 second clip with about 3 frames of animation of them flying into the sky. That's it. Literally.

Was actually a little shocked OnePunch apparently does NOT have a larger than average budget. At least when it comes to $. When it comes to the budget of giving a shit, they seem to have that in profuse abundance. And what a difference that makes to everything.
