HackDashShoot

Post by Vidsneezes »

Hello i'm working on a shmup called HackDashShoot.

Little brief:
It's a slower pace shmup and i'm focusing alot in learnable patterns for the levels.
I'm also working on the story, its a hacker hacks big corpa style story. Were basically
you playing the shmup is the hacker doing his hacks.

Right now i have a working build version 0.5

Here's a couple screens from that build:

and this one is of the story i still need to redraw and color it

You can Download the new build in any of these places
IndieDb
Dropbox
Gamejolt
Itch.io

if you do download the build
please give me some feedback on gameplay and difficulty, and if it feels broken or if theres anything broken.

Gave this a quick go, not a bad little Space Invaders-style shooter, though on the simple side (which seems to be the idea). The one major complaint I'd have about it so far is that since you can only move left or right but enemies can fire diagonally, when you've got more than one or two of them sending patterns down at you it can be quite difficult to get out unscathed. I do like being able to shoot back at an angle myself, which gives a bit more maneuverability for counter-attacks, but defensive options are still limited.

EDIT: Oh, and what determines which enemies drop items? Offhand it seems kinda random...

Thanks for playing the build! Yea its simple type of shmup. did you get to one of the bosses?
I been re doing those enemy patterns, try to get less of those edge cases where you get trapped in.

I'm thinking of adding an explosion right after the upgrade to clear near by enemies.

the items are random right now. The final system is going to be fixed so items always appear
in the same spot.

I'm already working on the new build (has new enemy patterns for level 2, and includes level 3)
and i'll post a Mac build but i don't have a mac so its going to be hit and miss i think :(

Here's a boss i been working on

He does a combination of dashing towards you, shooting, and follow paths. He is pretty complex xD

So i spent a couple hours playing the full game. And now i just changed the way the levels are built.
Now it only takes about ~1 hour to get a level rolling. and gave my self some flex.

It looks like complete chaos though

I'm thinking of switching the upgrade system to something like:
Specific enemy in specific location has upgrade orb (gives you full upgrade).

Also thinking of switching back to a simpler one shot your dead gameplay with lives and maybe continues.

New Build Check it out

IndieDb Download
GameJolt Download
Itch Download

The new build removes the old upgrade system. I removed and instead added things called code blocks
that are scattered in enemies through out the level. You have to find them and collect them to earn a higher rank.
New art for story.

I modified some enemies to make them harder. This build only has level one, i'll still passing the rest to the new
level system.

Let me know if you give it a try. Mac version can be found in the itch.io page but its not tested.
