If you decide on getting the Blast City, you might want to get one of the older MVS 1-Slots with stereo sound output. The Blast has 2 separate sound amps, the mono one over JAMMA will not be nearly as good as using a stereo lead going into the RCA connectors on the Blast City 001 loom. A stock JAMMA loom on the Blast won’t have those RCA connectors though, you’ll need a 001 loom.

Hmmm... after looking at a bunch of pictures and videos of candy cabs, and actually seeing a New Astro in person, I think I much prefer the aesthetics of the New Astro to the Blast City. Thus I am now heavily leaning towards getting a New Astro.

Besides, I've heard some bad things about the screen in the Blast City. Apparantly they are known to suffer from picture quality problems. Now, my eyes are pretty forgiving when it comes to such problems as long as the overall picture is vibrant and sharp, but it seesms the Blast monitor are known to have pretty bad convergence issues on the sides of the screens, extending too far into view.

My eyes can easily forgive bad geometry, but misalignment of colour components is a pretty garish problem that constantly calls attention to itself.

Unfortunately it seems New Astros are not as abundantly available today as they once were, and certainly not in the condition that I would want them in.

Anyone familiar with arcade.am?

It is a candy cab reseller based out of france. Their prices are quite a bit higher than RKLOK but it seems they recondition their cabs so the ones in the pictures look absolutely mint.

That is the kind of condition I want my future cab to be in and I won't mind paying a bit extra. Of course that is only if the cabs in the pictures are the actual units for sale, and their reconditioning involves recapping the monitors. Maybe even swapping in a new old stock monitor into the cab.

Anyway, there are a lot of unknowns here, has anyone dealt with them before?

Quite reliable but waiting time are quite high.
But clearly the quality of their refurbished cabs is much better.

They're the primary candy cabs seller in France, it's the company of the neo-arcadia game center owner 'Wovou' (located in Toulouse), website and community (the website is currently down because though, he's too busy with other things atm from what I've heard).
Basically there's nothing better in France, if you want more details I'd suggest you contact them via their facebook or wait until their forums are back online, register and ask him directly (or via pm since the forums are french-speaking only).

My fb message to arcade.am has gone without a reply for almost a week now. In contrast my email to RKLOK got a reply promptly.

When purchasing vintage electronics of such high value from another country I really think customer service should be prioritized highly since so many things can go wrong.

I am of course further worried by the first thing to greet me on their fb page being a poor review by a brittish chap who received a cab which had received shell damaged during shipping, and a tube that died after a few weeks of use. He too complained about not getting any replies to his flood of emails.

Anywaste, this scares me a bit as in my mind that is the worst case scenario for such an endeavour. If the owner of arcade.am is too busy with other things right now I think I should stay clear of them until such distractions have been settled.
