Has any of you ever taken apart a Candy Cab?
Moved into a big house, now Ireally really want to put my Egret III into the mancave/ attic, but I'm afraid that the staircase is too narrow to get through.... problem is the main body of the cab, if you take off the control panel it's still 65 cm deep and I have to get around a corner. Checked the manual but it doesn't look as if you could further dismantle the main body?
Any ideas apart from taking the monitor out (btw how long does this take? how big are chances of electrocutin' maself?)?
edit: eh, this doesn't sound too good re: taking out the monitor... http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=30819

Re: Has any of you ever taken apart a Candy Cab?
some of the "modern" monitors have a built in discharge circuit that discharges the voltage automatically on powerdown. or the voltage will dissipate if left unplugged for a few days. but that being said, definitely make a discharge tool and use it any way. removing the crt is really not that difficult, just make sure you have the cables going to the monitor chassis unplugged, and lay the cabinet flat on it's back for extraction. I've done it with my NAC, can't imagine it's much different for the E3. Keep in mind, the crt is the bulk of the weight of the cabinet. so if you're not particularly ripped, have someone help you with the extraction.

I'm afraid taking off the control panel is the only way of making it smaller. If it still can't fit where you're taking it, I'm fresh out of ideas.

That’s one of the problems with Egrets/Atomiswave, their main body is 1 piece. The Astro and Blast City are nice because they split in two.
In that other thread, if dude isn’t comfortable with removing monitors and what-not, he probably shouldn’t own a candy cab.

Riiight, well thanks fellas, you're a helpful bunch as usual. We'll see how it goes...

I've taken apart several candy's, sitdown's, etc.
Just make sure you're wearing gloves when taking the crt out and moving it. I've taken several out, without the whole discharging routine.
Just don't fiddle your fingers inside or close to the tube and electronics and you'll probably be fine*. not something you want to do drunk.
*I do not take responsibility for any deaths
when dismantling your egret, make sure you make loads of pictures and try to assemble it as soon as possible so you won't forget how everything goes back together.

Well, “any ideas besides taking the monitor out?”... Like what, use a sledgehammer and make the staircase wider? I’d love to help, but I don’t really understand the question, if there is one.ChurchOfSolipsism wrote:Riiight, well thanks fellas, you're a helpful bunch as usual. We'll see how it goes...
If you want specific instructions on how to take a monitor out, there are far better websites for that kinda stuff like arcadeotaku, neo-geo forums, etc.
You basically unscrew and unbolt the parts that need unscrewing and unbolting, and then unplug all the wires that need unplugging, then deadlift something like 200LBs. it’s either something you can do, or can’t, very little room in-between.

Friend, I wasn't being sarcastic. I've always gotten good advice from this board on all kinds of topics, from my trip to Japan or the Netherlands to video game related stuff, and I am grateful for the advice I've gotten in this thread as well.chempop wrote:Well, “any ideas besides taking the monitor out?”... I don't know about Egret III's, but I had to take apart my NAC to get it through my home-office door:

The cabinet splits in half as you can see. Do Egret III's not have this option?

Haha, sorry my sarcasm detector much have malfunctioned.
Opt2not, unfortunately they are a single piece shell, not including the monitor hatch (which removing probably won’t reduce the size enough). The super neo 29 is another cab that doesn’t split, possible the Windy as well, not sure though. Also, in your pic, did you split the Astro BEFORE taking the monitor out

Re: Has any of you ever taken apart a Candy Cab?
I had to take off the control panel of my Taito Egret II candy cab so that the main cabinet fixture could fit through my bedroom door alone (on the upstairs 2nd floor area). I did not remove the installed Nanao 29" CRT monitor as there was no need to do so. Just taking off the four heavy-duty bolts/machine screws was an adventure into itself -- apparently, the bolts had never been removed/loosened ever and was torqued to Taito's factory specs upon being assembled at that current point in time (so yes, it was super-tight just trying to loosen them up on initial try -- ProTip: spraying a bit of WD-40 on the bolts/screws oughta do the trick to loosen 'em up and make the job a tad bit easier in the end). You'll definitely encounter this situation as I did, quite easily.
Upon re-assembling the E2 control panel back onto the main candy cab chassis (once inside my bedroom), I did tighten it up but not to the original factory bolt torqued specs that it came originally shipped as -- that'd be a bit of overkill, IMHO.
Good luck with your removal of the E3 candy cab's control panel -- it's something you won't forget once removed and re-installed back on + in it's final resting place.
It, definitely, is a 2-person job to take an Egret 29/Egret II/Egret III candy cab up/down a flight of stairs.

Yep! It wasn't a big deal since I had 2 other guys helping me. We just unscrewed the halves, split it, then laid it down on a blanket. Easy-peasy.chempop wrote:Also, in your pic, did you split the Astro BEFORE taking the monitor out
I do not recommend doing it this way without having helpers on-hand.
