Some Shmups Statistics

There are a total of 107,473 posts currently in the shmups forum; and there are a total of 1,412 members here.

Here the breakdown by the number of posts made:

*- # of Posts Made is a very rough estimination made by SAM, unless bloodflowers make the SQL enquiry at the DataBase we won't know the exact figures.

From this figures we could see:

Of 1,412 members only 75% is actual active.
90% of the posts within the forum is contributed by only 22.81% of the members.
And 40% of all the posts is contributed by merely less than 4% of us.
dave4shmups single handedly contribute 2.51% of all the posts within this forum?!?!
For those 4% of the top posters (500+ posts), each contribute an average of 748.38 posts.
And for those reguler posters (10+ posts), each contribute an average of 54.02 posts.

There are fewer of us than we thought.

I make some fun to make a poll above, I think the result would be the exact opposite of the above statistics. Since only those visit here frequenty got to vote.

One interesting statistic I noticed recently, is at any given time there are usually as many guests as registered users connected. It looks like we have a readership out there.

Maybe the "guests" are just some of the regular members just browsing the forum without login. I used to do this, I would only login when I need to post.

I was a lurker on this site for a loong time, which is an easy thing to do since it's such a great information resource. I think the only thing that finally compelled me to join was the fact that I wanted to participate in some of the HS threads, probably with the intention of improving my skills some. I've been posting a bit too much lately as I've been spending too much time on forums in general, and I've been doing so in a more chatty manner (I spend more time checking Off Topic than Shmups Chat lately). I think many people are waiting for the next wave of games before going back to pilot school once again.

But yeah, the quality of actual gameplay discussion on shmups is second-to-none IMO. I don't think I've ever seen a game analyzed as thoroughly as with Rando's ST on Border Down.

I voted "Once every 3 to 4 days". I'm not one to jump on every single topic just so I can have my opinion heard. I only post on topics in which I have little or alot of knowledge in whatever is being discussed, or have something in common with the subject. You're not gonna see me with a huge post count. But, whenever I do bring up the forum, which is almost everyday, I always log in just incase.

I tend to lurk since my actual experience with shmups is pretty much limited to SNES stuff, Gradius, Thunder Force, and R-Type.

I almost bought a Saturn, though. Still considering it, actually...

i can't remember when i started here, but it was the last time the forums were still hosted by gamespy. but i lurked for a few months cause i was frigging afraid of the place. it felt like how trying to get into counterstrike feels now (intimidating, no room for inexperience, etc).

i think i started to lurk right before the transition to gamespy in late 2002.

I wandered in sometime during the Gamespy phase, I'd just discovered ABA Games, and I was trying to find out about this Ikaruga thing people were raving about. I think I actually joined just to post a noiz2sa score. Now I browse the forum every couple days, log in maybe half the time, and usually don't have anything to post. Meh.

I begun posting here back in ... end of 98 - beggining of 99. Something around that. But back at that time I didn't post too much here, and I don't think anyone will remember me from that time. The forum still used Network54 (Or whatever it was their name back on that time, I am sure it wasnt Network54).

I found this site (And then the forum) because Akira used to post at Emulation Talk, an Amiga board (Also in the old network54), and he had the url for it in his signature.

Shoot em ups had ALWAYS been my fav genre, so I was in very happy to find out that I wasn't alone

I use the forums purely on a communication/have some fun/learn some shmupping info and trade.

It makes for a much better forum when personalities are allowed to flow out.

I post whenever I have something I have to say. Which, just like in real life, isn't too often.

That and high score updates...which are equally done sparingly.

Should I get a jp Saturn and just import, or get a US Saturn and bypass the region lockout?

i'd say it depends on the games you'll be playing. just shmups - jp console. if you are going to dabble in rpgs and whatnot get a us system modded.

i would specifically like to suggest though that you NOT use the 4-1 converter to play jp games on a us system. i am among several on this site that have had their cartridge ports die because of using these (in my case, there is no other explanation). note, not everyone has had this problem though.
