Should I bother finishing Double Dragon NES?

Post by atheistgod1999 »

The game is so not fun. I'm just playing it so I can say that I've beaten it because I'm on a quest to beat all the popular retro games starting with the NES/Famicom. I've managed to get to mission 4 on one playthrough so far, and I'm now good enough so that I can usually get to the mission 3 caves without dying once, but it's so fucking tedious having to restart every ~10 minutes and mindlessly punch and kick the enemies I've already killed in missions 1 and 2 over and over and over again. I know it's like that with almost every retro game but it wasn't as boring having to replay the entire SMB and american SMB2 games several times in order to beat them. I have severe ADHD, though, so that might be a factor.

P.S. I know I shouldn't shit out so many threads. I just felt like this was urgent (for me) and this has to do with a particular video game. I'm trying to post in other threads more.

First off: I don't care. You've been told this, before, by other people on the Forum, so I'll be honest too.

Every now and then I see a story about somebody who sat on a pole for weeks at a time (the last guy who was famous for doing that fell off and died), or used echolocation to walk around, saved a guy in the subway, the three-legged dog that saved a baby, the first guy to get a million Xbox Achievement Points. Sometimes stories like this get in the news, but you know what? Pretty soon they're forgotten. Even the inspiring, heart-warming, life-changing stories are fake-famous; they mostly only appear in the news to fill out a slow day. So...you're either doing this for yourself, or for nobody, because you're not going to be remembered for having half-assed your way through NES games.

Ultimately, according to one way of thinking you're just wasting your time playing games. Keep that in mind. I'm not here to tell you that, but I would suggest you wonder whether your ideas about what you should be doing are being manipulated, or whether you're just deceiving yourself.

While minor obsessions and holding personal standards can be helpful, you only have so many years to be young. Whenever I've found myself obsessing too much over something, and not paying attention to the wider world in general, I've later realized that I was missing opportunities and hurting myself in numerous ways. You don't want to be old and full of regrets that you spent your youth, wealth, and health on shit that you hated.

Finally, I feel like we've been here before. Why do you care so much what random idiots like us have to say about personal decisions?

Do you enjoy the game? As in really enjoy it? It sounds like you don't like it that much if you don't like the early game so much and just want to be done with it.

In contrast, I find the first few stages of Alien Vs Predator crazy fun. No complaints there. I finished it because I really fucking love that game.

I think you're a troll.

However, to answer your question: If you aren't enjoying it, no.

The second one is better. The GBA version is really awesome. Heck, beat Castlevania III or something. There's more classics, than Double Dragon.

I don't think this thread, or most any other thread like it, is going to end up anyplace good, so I'll take a bit of initiative.
