Top 3 Import Only DC shmups

Post by chempop »

And by import I mean JPN so don't include any shmups that were released in the USA.

Can't think of many actually.

Zero Gunner 2
Border Down
Psyvariar 2
Trizeal

Obviously some others were released on different consoles in the USA.

Chaos field
Ikaruga
Shikigami no shiro 2

Narrow it down to "Top 3 Import-Only DC-only shmups" and you probably only have 3 shooters total to choose from...

Have we, the Shmups denizens, really resorted to a "top import-only DC shmup" list? T_T

Hahaha, well I figured there was a top 3 for US, why not a top 3 for imports too? Strangly, I don't own a single import DC shmup, and I was wondering mainly what would be a good starting place.

Pvyvariar2
Zerogunner2
Border Down
Twinkle Star Sprites
Trizeal
ShikigaminoShiro2
Ikaruga
Chaos Field

Is that all of them?

I say, screw the "no US game" rule, especially if it was ported to another system...

1. Ikaruga
2. Bangaioh
3. Border Down

...so there.

Gasp!! Just watched some videos of psyvarair2 for the first time and I must say I'm all over this game. I had no idea what to expect but I think it is going to be one of the next games I buy. What do you guys think about it, is it worth $60+ (looked around ebay but couldn't find a cheap copy).

Depends. As a game, probably not, there are other shooter's I'd buy first. But I can see the prices of some of the DC imports rising steeply in years to come, so if you have some of the collector's mentality in you as well, go for it.

It's definately worth that much, but you can get as much as $20 cheaper if you buy it from someone here, videogameauctions.co.uk, or dcpawnshot.com (down).

I got mine for like $45, and it's a great game

It's a really controversial game (well not really. Unlike Garegga it's universally hated). Novel idea if you play for score though I haven't actually even bought a copy yet much less done any in depth playing, so I can't vouch for quality gameplay.

If you have ps2 or xbox, I'd recommend picking it up on one of those for cheap (not sure how much xbox is, actually. ps2 one is IIRC about $20).

Well, I'm working on getting an import friendly PS2 (how could I not be tempted with all the recent re-releases and new Cave titles), but right now only my saturn and DC play imports. Also, I'm trying to figure out more reasons to get a VGA box and psyvariar seemed like it would be amazing on VGA screen.

I've been looking around www.videogameimports.com and I see a number of good deals, much better than ebay. Does anyone know if that site reliable?

The site is very reliable and the owner is a really good guy.

Keep an eye on http://www.videogameauctions.com as well as there are a number of good sellers who sell Japanese DC games and a DC Psy 2 was sold on there recently.

Psyvariar Complete Edition (or just Psyvariar Revision) is worth $60.

Psyvariar 2 is worth a CD-R.

I like the game a lot. It's a bare bones port though, just the game, no practice modes or anything like that. It's good, I think it's worth the 60$. I don't get why so many people shit on the game.

Anywho, my 3 as of now would be

Ikaruga
Psyvariar 2
Trizeal

Hark! Neon speaks for the universe!

Count me as not being part of the universe. I like Psy2. It's really nice in VGA, but I'd recommend going for the PS2 version since it's cheaper and you get a BEAUTIFUL superplay DVD and image galleries on DVD and in-game.

But yeah.. if import-only and DC-only, I can't really think of anything if we're counting arcade as being another system..

Erm, aren't you the owner? Or co owner at least.

I was going to hate you (and in fact my earlier post was meant to be abrasive), but that quote alone was too good. All in good fun, I've settled down :) I don't got no nothing against you no more.

Meanwhile, back on topic...

Ikaruga
Border Down
Shikigami no shiro II

But look out for Under Defeat.

Nope.

Anyway why would that matter if I was? tbh the more people that use a site like that and encourage others the better. There sure as hell aren't any other companies offering up an auction site with free listings let alone being run by staff who are gamers who understand whats being listed and can act upon the illegally listed items without having to be contacted.

The site has excellent potential its just a huge shame ebay is limiting people, I personally think its dreadful the marketplace is determined by a single site but thats a whole different topic entirely.

that website is a revelation! i can actually preorder under defeat and railurji and get a reliable price. i hate the idea that i can pay for an item and then get charged an ass load of tax on top. i'd rather pay a higher price and be sure that that's it.

looks like i'll be picking up a few dc titles over the next couple of months... there go my wages

I don't own Border Down yet so...

1.Ikaruga

2.Zero Gunner 2

I thought about buying Psyvariar 2 but the buzz system just does not interest me at the moment.
