BVM-20F1U and "proper" S-Video?

Post by johndp977 »

Hi,

Did a lot of searching on this and came up with various solutions, but wanted to attempt to get a definite answer here.

I recently acquired a BVM-20F1U, and am wondering about the options for connecting consoles via S-Video. From what I have gathered I can get a pretty simple cable to connect it via composite using the BKM-24N module, which I have, or get a more expensive adapter box (Entech, iScan?) to convert the signal to component. What I would like to know is if this can be done "properly" with the 20F1U for systems like the N64 and 3DO, for which I currently do not have set up for RGB. And by "properly", I would assume this to mean no degradation of the S-Video picture quality (the image will still look closer to RGB than composite, as it should for S-Video), and no tangible lag introduced by some sort of signal processing.

Anyone dealt with this situation using S-Video on a 20F1U, and solved it satisfactorily?

Thanks for looking!

There are input boards that accept S-video, but you'll need a funky lum/chrom split end cable to connect your consoles to that board as it does not come equipped with a standard S-video input connector.

I bet those boards will cost you a king's ransom though. Better solution would be to find a S-video to RGB converter. But best solution would be to RGB mod those two systems and eliminate the problem at its root.

i have a little board that i bought a while ago that has an svideo connector and 2 bnc connctors. its basically this, so this should work the same:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-LWC-S-Video ... 1366218210
or
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Hight-Quality ... 1062510657
The BKM-24N can do svideo inputs through BNC. Just connect a cable like this to a switch or possibly can find one with a female svideo connector on it.
