Maybe in the future, but don't get your hopes up.
I've been recently exchanging emails with Brian Ashcraft, the editor of popular gaming blog kotaku. I tipped him off to a major sale of Xbox 360 games in Akihabara, and he asked me to email him whatever interesting news stories I come up with. So I took this opportunity to ask him to cover shooting games in the future. This is what I said to him:
You know, I think it would be cool if sites like yours posted more news on less-popular genres like shooting games. Part of the reason these games are not so popular today is because the media stopped covering them (of course that's not the only reason). Plus, it would give you an even more hardcore image, whatever that means. Just a suggestion. (If you ever decide to do this I'd be happy to provide the news coverage).
He hasn't replied yet (I just emailed him), but I think it would be cool if he said yes. I could link shmups.com and similar sites and get more casual gamers to become interested. Maybe we could also write a couple of articles explaining why we love these games so much...
jeez, i hope i don't get disappointed by the response
Kotaku.com covering STGs?

Hi icycalm, how you doing over there?
Pretty nice to see people who are dedicated to make shmups more popular. Even if he gives you a bad or no reply, don't let that take you down. There will be other opportunities popping up where you could be something like a shmup-reporter.
And... I know I haven't replied to the mail yet. It's pure lazyness...
