Lol - you youngsters don't even know. The airport in Charlotte, N.C. used to have a badass arcade with at least 15 cabs. This was back in 1986 or so, and I used to play Mario Bros (original - 1 screen in a sewer) quite a bit.
A lot of supermarkets and gas stations back then had an arcade cab or two as well. My local Texaco had Time Pilot, and the nearest IGA mart had Goonies. I think the local hamburger joint (Griffs) still has a Neo Geo big red machine with a 4-slot inside.
Oh my god, I'm so envious. All that exists in airports now are a bunch of restaurants (that part I'm fine with), cheap souvenir shops, that clothing store that makes no fucking sense, and probably something else I'm forgetting.

The airport in Manchester, NH, when I was a teenager (early 2000s) had Metal Slug 3, Ms. Pac Man, House of the Dead 2, Cruisin' World, and that game snood was based off that whose name I shamefully can't remember at the moment.. bubble something; also a wicked ass claw game with Marvel dolls (won a couple - Magneto and Thor and a couple others). Was plenty enough for me. Would throw a lip in and jam.

Unless Bubble Bobble plays like Snood, then no. Since they feature the same lil dragon, it's the same franchise, though. I'm sure someone will come along and bring light to the darkness. Offer up your prayers, Lord Satori.

possibly puzzle bobble?
ya that's it. brain un-freezed. mercy, me. a good little post-modern arcade, in any case.
23. Last post in this thread I was 15 talking about buying taito legends 2 crazy to think that it's been that long.
I got into STG when I was 13-14 after setting up MAME to play Metal Slug (which I really liked at arcades). The old MAWS site used to have a 'game of the day' thing that made me try a lot of STG. The ones that really hooked me initially were 19XX, ESP Ra.De and Blazing Star. piracy is good
I was born in 1977. I'm 38 right now. Who knows how old I'll be by the time you read this.
I signed up here in 2007 when I was 30. Back then, I worried that I was too old for these games, but I play shoot-em-ups better now than when I was a teenager. (But maybe not as well as I did in 2011...)
My first shmup was Space Invaders for the Atari 2600. Really loved that game along with River Raid and Seaquest. I got so good at SeaQuest that I could reach max difficulty and continue looping until I got bored.
My first arcade shmups were 1942 and 1943. I liked them, but I didn't love them. I tended to prefer top-down run and guns, especially the ones with rotary joysticks like Ikari Warriors, Heavy Barrel, and Time Soldiers. I really miss how you could find arcade games everywhere in the 80s and early 90s. I used to wish I was older so I could have enjoyed more of the arcade culture, and collected more games for the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. Those were great times. I still have fun with newer stuff such as the Xbox 360, but 1985-1995, man, that was the golden age.
I am 31. It is crazy to think that when this thread started I was 21, and the most annoying douchey "in need of a punch in the face" 21 year old in the world.
Scary... it doesn't seem like it was that long ago when I started posting here. But it has been that long ago now..... 38 now and counting.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
