Pc-Engine Duo RGBMod - Internal vs Sodipeng

Post by ksdominant »

Hi,

What's the best method for modding my Jap Pc-Engine Duo?
I can go for the internal amp mod that a lot of the guys here are using or this much simpler 3 wire one (uses an external lead that contains the rgb amp I think):

Is that amp really contained in the scart lead and which would give the best picture quality? Also I want to use it with a framemeister later (using the safe euro converter leads of course)

Any help/info would really be appreciated guys..

I'm guessing that with that method you need to : use that scart lead AND solder three wires inside the console like in the bottom pic(thus no amp needed in the machine, only those three wires. the amp is included in the cable).

But I have no idea if this method is as good as the internal amp mod or not

But doesn't the original Duo AV port just have 5 output pins ? With RGB you need at least 7 (8 if you want a 5V output), so you still need to replace the DIN connector on the base unit - and that's the hardest part, isn't it ?

Hmmm good point.

That method kinda gets pointless then

Thanks that made me realise it's not just 3 wires to solder! Hmm but it still requires an 8 pin connector (like any rgb mod for this unit) and without building & putting in an internal amp.

I think it comes down to the quality of the internal amp vs the external amp in that scart lead then. Anyone know if a sodipeng rgb-modded pc-engine looks better than one with an internal amp? Or difference not noticable?

There have been several similar PC Engine RGB threads started recently. Best RGB mod uses Tim's AV-DRIVER.
