Not to derail the topic, but how well do these things work? That sounds amazing.

Works really well! I have the Rhea version, (for the oval button Saturns) and I haven't had any trouble with running games off it. You just got to get the proper format that it supports, or convert your disc images to the proper format.

The only thing that's lacking right now is a Menu system for selecting games. Currently you load your games into folders in numerical order, then press a button on the board to switch games. It's cumbersome when you are trying to switch from a bunch of games on one SD card, but if you keep your game lists small the switching isn't too bad.

So damn good that these solutions are being developed, speaking as someone with a ton of 90s disc-based games. Looking forward to the day I can just "install" stuff before stowing it safely on the shelf. :3

That is fucking sexy.

They need one for the PC Engine CD Rom, cos that optical drive likes to die.

100% I was in talks with a developer over this a couple of years back. What is needed is some one who has the VHDL skills and motivation.

We all know that the PCE will fail and I have to say it tends to send a cold chill through me when I think about it :)

Not to mention that the original white PCE + CD-ROM unit as well as the original Charcoal Grey Turbo Duo are some of the sickest looking video game hardware ever created imo

Have to agree. I have had a PCE for a long time now and it really is the most diminutive little beauty. It is a true exercise in compact design; has only a couple of chips inside.

Not as keen on the Duos myself. I use the IFU and CD drive which are both original white, Japanese machines.

Same here, good sir.
I sort of wish the US TG-16 retained the compact design of the Japanese PCE.
That said, I have the full PCE/CD setup in my collection and it will always remain a favorite of mine.

Now this one's most needed, if you ask me. Earlier consoles are emulated well enough even by SDTV-supporting hardware (thinking mostly of modded first Xbox and Wii here), but Saturn and PSX are THE big boys' toys needing preservation now.

Yes, but the method by which these solutions function is pretty much the same.

Once someone put the work in to analyse how each console reads from its drive it can then be fitted in with the existing design.

I am very glad that someone has taken this seriously and I cannot wait to see PCE and Saturn personally as these are the most I use for Shmups.

However, the price for the Saturn device is a bit expensive at present.

The inability to load PSX ROMs off DVD or HDD on (modded) PS2 left me under impression it was quite the challenge.

Essentially, the device reads blocks of data. Once you can replicate the protocol and such.

A not-entirely-accurate knockoff Cave logo phone case from redbubble.com. Probably not the best use of 20 quid but I couldn't resist

Hang out, drink, send texts, and watch the story unfold through full HD cinematics, eh? Sounds like the first-ever game targeting directly my now-demographic. Happens to be also the first PS3 game cover I REALLY like. Sure, Drakengard 3 looks fine, but not striking enough for a cover (doesn't trigger an "oh?" response when glimpsed).

Image

Could the first one be the edited UK print (no beheadings)? I gues there is only one way to find out. Or was that censored version even a thing?

Image

Guess it's time to bid my MGS3: Subsistence copy farewell. Or maybe I won't, although I can't hink of any other than sentimental reason to keep it. Also, I don't like some of the asking prices out there, nor do I want to partake in this sport. Then again - hoarding such items won't do the market any good.

One PS2 game I'd rather not simply replace with the PS3 port is Ico, for I think 240p on a CRT is in its favour. The cardboard-boxed SotC is on its way out, though (I'm sure it can find a quieter haven than under my roof).

Then I can actually put books on my bookshelf & games on the media racks. Do away with that shoddy cube setup under the CRT, & mount the cube thing to the far wall near my PC.

My room is still halfway under construction, so excuse the lack of molding & bad paint. I'm also putting a tile floor into the section with the CRT.

Edit - Oh, I forgot to mention that I also ordered The Art Of Dead Space (the big one that's nearly 200 pages). It'll be the first book to go on the shelf :>

Only the US version of Sigma 1 has human beheading. The rest of the world received censored versions, with fiends the only enemy capable of having its head sliced from its body. General Gore has been toned down as well.
Sigma 2 on the other hand retains decapitations (I’m not sure about Asia regions), though now features the removal of blood, in its place a purple mist. This is the same for all regions and its extremely stupid.

Not even... GUY SAVAGE? >:3 That's why I keep my disc, despite the HDC's 60fps goodness. Not that the memory of my first encounter with Tactical Lycanthropic Action isn't precious, but it's a neat obscurity and kinda cool besides. I'd totally have picked up a finished game, that's some solid evisceratin' when the rage meter erupts! disclaimer: I kinda like Nano Breaker!

I don't think I'll be parting with 3 Subsistence soon after all. Some bits (said dream, Snake vs Monkeys, possibly resurrected MGO) remain PS2-exclusive and it's such a piece of the PS2's history overall. If want to keep my library of PS2 games worth keeping the console, or say, to show some kids in the future what PS2 was about for me, MGS3 belongs there.
SotC also stays with me for a little bit longer because I don't need money badly enough to let it go just yet, even if we all must deal with the fact I didn't like it as much as expected.
2 Substance stays because on RGB CRT it looks SHARPER than HD on LCD via HDMI and it's a fair piece of history as well.

Someone said Sigma 1 sold in Norway had decapitations (and some 18 rating, although I'm not sure if PEGI). Edited out splatter in 2 could have had something to do with optimisation.

I got Grimlock (his voice actor) to sign this print at a TF con this past weekend. I went to help a friend with his booth in the dealers room.

And picked this up also.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
