Arcade Japan Update - www.arcadejapan.co.uk

Post by Devil Soundwave »

Hi Guys,

As some of you may have seen from recent Facebook/Twitter updates, the server hosting www.arcadejapan.co.uk is currently down again, as is the email server; and this time I fear it may be a dead duck.

For those few people who managed to get orders in when the server was up briefly on Saturday, rest assured I have them and will process/ship as per usual.

If you have any concerns, please contact me on my personal e-mail: poiqwe123 at hotmail.co.uk

These server issues have come at a pretty bad time as I fly out for week long holiday next Wednesday, however am exploring my options for moving the site to a new host ASAP, which is largely dependent upon the current server being up again long enough for me to pull a full up-to-date back-up down via FTP. The current host are offering very minimal contact and zero details which is incredibly frustrating.

In any case, if the site comes back online at any point between now and my holiday, it is my intention to put the site into maintenance mode for the time being, therefore if you get a maintenance page or a 404, rest assured Arcade Japan is not out of business, and the site will all be back and in working order ASAP.

That sounds like a really terrible service - can you name and shame the host?

Arvixe.com. Pretty widely reported to have been hacked, and/or fired most of their staff recently. Issues beyond their control aside, their response to said issues has been utterly terribad and I cannot honestly ever recommend them.

Ok good to know. Get yourself a reliable host and get yourself back online. I suppose after all their years of service I should recommend http://www.simplexwebs.com for hosting. They're based in the UK and super nice guys, with IT whiz Harry Perks being top of the game for figuring out obscure issues.

Compared to when they started, their downtime issues are now at a real minimum and IT support is good (no request refused). Quicker than before too. I wouldn't say perfect, but certainly very responsible and honest. I can comfortably recommend them, especially for UK customers.

EDIT: And they reassigned me online backup functionality too, so editing this for posterity!
