Bangaioh came out in the US, anyway. Though whether or not it's actually a shmup, is another matter...

Mars Matrix, Giga Wing, and Gunbird 2 are all in my top 10 all-time favorites. If the DC had Garegga, Dragon Blaze, and Raiden DX, then I would probably be safe selling all my other consoles.

Does Bangai-o count as a shmup? I think this thread should include imports, there are only around a half dozen US games that even fit the genre.

1. Gunbird 2
2. Mars Matrix
3. Gigawing 2

1) Bangai-O (so damn fun, even if on the fringe of shmup definition)
2) Giga Wing 2
3) Mars Matrix

Bangaioh and Cannon Spike seconded. I really oughta pop in Bangaioh again and improve some of my scores and it has been too long since I played 2P co-op on Cannon Spike.

The DC was such an eclectic system and also showed me what a great company Capcom can be under the right circumstances. To think I could go in a store and buy a new sealed copy of MM or GW2 for just $19.99, new release. Simply awesome.

But Cannon Spike is not a shmup. It doesn't scroll.

I know. It's not a shmup. But darn it, it's a good game so I say, if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em. Or something....

It'd be criminal not to import on a system where it's so easy to do.

Anyways, Mars Matrix and the Gigawings. Gunbird 2 is tops as well, but Dragon Blaze on PS2 is even better.
