I tried to create a 25 min show about Shmups, advice please?

Post by jimmy2x2x »

I have a small YT channel and have created a 25 min episode concentrating on shmups

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UApigW0JykI

I'm pretty new to video creation, only started about a month ago so it isn't amazing, any suggestions on what to change
for the next episode?

Writing a script and editing the gameplay to reflect the dialogue more accurately are being taken care of ;)

Thanks guys, don't be too harsh on a me!

I have watched the episode, and i liked the variation on subjects.
What could be better in my opinion, is a little research on some titles. Try to find something people don't know. That's the main reason for me to watch these types of videos.
Or show footage of a game not that well known, hidden gems etc.

I've subscribed to your channel and i'll be looking forward to your next video.

Thanks for the response, you raise some valid points and I will strive to do more research into the lesser known.

Thanks for the sub, I hope my next episode will be an improvement!

Want an advice? MOAR CAVE!!!

On a serious note:
I skiped a lot of parts but will get back to it soon to watch it in it's full lenght. I thinks it's a pretty decent job but you should focus on some kind of "specific subject" within the genre instead of covering so many titles in one episode.

Just my 2 cents

Just finished watching and I liked it. The presentation is nice. The pace is good. One thing I noticed is that the game sound is slightly too loud compared to your voice. Especially during 1942 it was sometimes hard to hear what you were saying.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I do appreciate it!

One quick question (don't want to keep spamming the thread):

Could you give me some examples of interesting facts for the games I have featured - to give me a better idea of what you mean exactly.

Started to work on episode 2, expecting 1st November upload for it.

I think just doing a bit more research would be helpful. Even just for 1943 for example - there are some interesting mechanics and gigantic amounts of hidden things, which are pretty unique for a game of its time in the genre. Your life bar constantly decreases, your special weapons are timed and eventually run out, (most of) the powerups are selectable between what kind of weapon you want as well as life. There are weapon codes for every stage that will refill your weapon timer with a different weapon type. There are many hidden point items in each level. Inserting the maximum credits into the game will cause a bonus point item to appear at the end of (I think) every stage. There is a hidden bonus enemy that comes out of the ship bosses that's worth 100k points. If you're going to gloss over so many things to talk about to skip over a pretty classic game in 15 seconds instead, then why even bother doing reviews?

You should change the name to PCB TV.

Rolls off the tongue better.

I like the concept and visuals. Also to have a topic per episode. Easy voice to listen to.

Sound of the game could be more prominent.
The game itself can be more filled on the screen. Perhaps extra 'extreme zoomed in window' for specialties, like score/counter parts or few seconds of ship/weapons attention.

As there are more 'informational' videos, I agree with above to see more in depth info. Traded off with less reviews or more/longer episodes.

Info like:
- the game story ( most have a limited story)
- developers (as in the people) info
- non common game info ( in game stuff, like secrets or other layers of complexity, scoring systems, etc)
- external exposure of game ( advertisements, weird ads, mentiones)
- which regions it was available

Why the name PCB? You review also consoles (granted, they also have a pcb :-))

Great replies, thanks for taking the time guys, I will take everything on board!

PCB is an acronym for my Youtube channel name 'PC Baker', which also fits in with the content of this show ;)
