The above question is old but was never answered... I'm curious if anyone knows? The Selecty21 lacks a power supply, so I presume even if it does sync stripping, it probably isn't as reliable as using say the XSync-1?NWrain wrote:I am thinking about buying a Micomsoft Selecty21 scart switcher. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I just got a super famicom and as I have been playing it over the last couple of days the av connection has got worse and worse. Now it's at the point where the picture will not stay still on the screen, it just constantly scrolls and cuts out. I have tried the cable in my GameCube and that worked fine, so it's not the cable.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Maybe the system's internal caps were on the way out? I've seen things work when you start using them, after years in storage, and then slowly die over the next few plays.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
My rgb cable arrived this morning and it works great with that. I can't say I understand why, but I'm happy anyway.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Do extrons make images darker or is there some compatibility issues with the ps2 and extron 203?
Here's my setup.
Playstation 2 and other component systems > Xselect d4> xrgb3 via dsub15 > EXTRON 203> bnc output to audio authority 9a60a (monitor output goes to gefen VGA to DVI)
Then finally 9a60a > powered component switchbox > Sony w800b
Using this setup I get 3 options in image processing.
I can bypass all the upscalers entirely right at the start and go straight from Xselect d4 into the component switchbox and from there to TV where I let the built in scaler deinterlace
This gives me the brightest image and accurate colors near as I can tell.
Going through the xrgb 3, extron and 9a60a gives me a wayyyy darker image and a slight green tint to everything, almost like its on warm 2 (it's not)
Even maxing out the level boost doesn't give me as bright an image as just the Sony TV does with no processors in the chain
Following that same chain but going to the gefen instead of the 9a60a gives me accurate colors again without the green tint from before but image is dark if not even darker than before.
My main culprit for this dark image right now is the extron and possibly also the bnc to VGA cable connected to 9a60a.
I know this was a long read but does anyone have any ideas that could help or maybe some reassurance that the image dimming when having to follow such a long chain is natural and to be expected?
All inputs on the Sony TV have been set to full as to avoid a black crush situation

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is it possible to use Tim's N64RGB board with an NTSC Super Nintendo C-Sync SCART cable?
It looks like it's intended for use with PAL SCART cables with resistors instead of caps in them... The jumpers could be shorted, but it's still expecting resistors right?
EDIT: To add to the confusion, the Gamecube SCART cable has caps in it and you don't solder the jumpers together with it. Definitely lost now.

Does anybody know how to see the operating hours on a Sony PVM 20L4 please? I can get into the service menu and gone through every screen but I can't find it.
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The PVM series do not keep track of operating hours. That feature is exclusive to the BVM series.

OCD query: If I buy a green Seimitsu LS-58 and green Sanwa buttons, will they match or will there be a noticeable difference between their respective colours?

Can't remember for sure right now if the greens match, but you can always use a matching Sanwa balltop on a Seimitsu stick.nekketsu wrote:OCD query: If I buy a green Seimitsu LS-58 and green Sanwa buttons, will they match or will there be a noticeable difference between their respective colours?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I have an RGB modded PC Engine Duo-R, and in the last couple of years it's been my favorite retro console. After a while spent playing, however, the brightest whites of the picture turn pink and stay that way until the unit has cooled down a while. Interestingly, on a screen that is fading out, the pink graphics turn white as brightness decreases. (The audio also seems to vary at times but that may be my TV.)
I am unable to duplicate these problems with my composite cable-- the issue only occurs with SCART. Would anyone like to hazard a guess about what's gone wrong? Thanks in advance.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Your Duo-R should have some sort of amp for your RGB lines, and it sounds like it might be having some issues. Green and blue end up weaker than red over time.Galgomite wrote:After a while spent playing, however, the brightest whites of the picture turn pink and stay that way until the unit has cooled down a while. Thanks for the response. Right, it does have a TH7314 or whatever. Maybe it needs a new amp.CkRtech wrote:Your Duo-R should have some sort of amp for your RGB lines, and it sounds like it might be having some issues. I'm looking for a VESA stand for a single 27" monitor. The space available is pretty cramped vertically, so I'm looking for stands that allow me to lower the screen very low, not quite low enough that the screen touches the table but you get the idea.
I've found one option that seems to have the height adjustment capabilities I need:
http://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Single-Monit ... itor+stand
Do any other stands allow for such height adjustment?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I've bought a 2m SCART extension cable (straight female>male), but it doesn't seem to carry the signal properly as my crt tv (Thomson 25DG182, or any other set I have) at the end doesn't detect the signal with any console I've tried.
The 5V/AV switching is passed as there's always a reaction or automatic switching to AV mode.
Checked the wiring inside the female and male plugs: everything seems to be wired fine on both ends, all 21 pins.
EDIT: saying this but most wires are either black or red, so it would be hard to tell it it's wired properly.
Nothing fancy in the chain, just: console > scart rgb cable > scart extension > crt tv.
Any ideas ? Anyone experienced the same with a similar extension cord ? Thanks.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
If you can, I'd do a connectivity test with a multimeter across each pin at both ends of the plug. If that passes it can probably only be a loose connector.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Any chance you can just test the SCART extension on another TV and console?Xyga wrote: Nothing fancy in the chain, just: console > scart rgb cable > scart extension > crt tv.

I did. Same result.
Bet the only way is indeed the multimeter way...or buying another one.
It's the kind of connectivity hyper-end-of-life products that will either be absolute shit quality and cost peanuts, or gold-plated/insulated and super expensive.
There's no middle-ground.
Honestly maybe 1 in 3 products of the same type I've bought over the past decade were either DOA or broke almost immediately.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hello again.
I've got an Iiyama x2783hsu, and I'm looking to play my retro games(NES, SNES, etc.) on it. There are several options for line-doublers at the moment, most notably the XRGB series. However, marqs is developing his line-doubler to output through HDMI and also line triple 240p content.
My questions are:
Would there be any difference in quality when comparing 480p through VGA from the XRGBs and 480P through HDMI from marqs' device?
How would 480p upscaled to 1080p(XRGBs) and 720p upscaled to 1080p(marqs' device) compare?
Should I expect any more Input Lag with VGA over HDMI?

the new contender is better. Perfectly stable image, while the XRGBs always have a little "sync wobble".Would there be any difference in quality when comparing 480p through VGA from the XRGBs and 480P through HDMI from marqs' device?
very close. Marqs' will have the better horiztontal scaling, but will give you less aspect ratio options. I wouldn't really consider the XRGB-3 for 1080p output. If you want lots of scaling options (overscan, integer scaling profiles) you need a Framemeister. How would 480p upscaled to 1080p(XRGBs) and 720p upscaled to 1080p(marqs' device) compare?
no.Should I expect any more Input Lag with VGA over HDMI?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
My 2c;
If you hate lag: either get an XRGB-2, XRGB-3 (both have picture stabilizing settings and personally I don't think they're always wobbly) or wait for Marq's device.
If you can live with undefeatable over-1-frame lag: get a Frame Meister.
To answer your question about how your Iiyama would handle the upscaling; you can run scaling tests yourself using pattern pictures, like what they do on Prad.de: http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/20 ... erpolation
Use the original~raw pattern pic, have your PC output various resolutions and aspects (640x480, 720x480, 1280x720, 1280x960, etc, also multiples of 224 is you can program your GPU output), do it through both HDMI and VGA in turns.
Always test the ratio controls with each non-16:9 resolution.
Look closely at the results and you will know what your monitor can scale and justify well or not.
If it sucks hard at upscaling 480p, and 960p (uneven and blurry pattern) and can't pillarbox/letterbox correctly, you should indeed consider a Frame Meister...or Marq's device combined with a DVDO vp50pro.

Does running a PS3 on an old CRT improve how games run?
Like running a PC game in lower resolutions drastically reduces processor load & allows your games to run more smoothly. Is this true of the more modern HD consoles? I have my PS3 hooked up with the red, green, & blue component cables. I swear my games have never felt so smooth, but it may just be that I'm old & prefer the TV's I grew up playing on.

consoles are on a fixed frame rate so you will see no improvements by going to a lower resolution. The improvements you are noticing has to do with the refresh rates on crt monitors vs hdvt monitors.8BA wrote:Does running a PS3 on an old CRT improve how games run?

Hi guys !!
So I have for 2 years now, a superb Super Famicom 1chip 02 who give me a great sharp and cristal image (with csync rgb cable + xrgb mini), so I'm very happy whit that; the only problem I get is that is showing me some diagonal lines on yellow or blue or other coulours (often on background); like the youtube video of my life in gaming at 9:34
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAlrdCBjUAQ
So I found this by surfing the forum & google :
http://retrorgb.com/snes1chip.html
If I do the mod from retrorgb, do those lines will be gone, or do I have to bought me a 1chip 03 model ?
Many thanks

You don't have to do a full bypass RGB mod. Instead you can use the vertical bar fix http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/sne ... fix.48413/

The issue described in that video is crosstalk from the composite video line when low quality cables are used. Those jokers who made that video have never edited to make the distinction, and have created speculation amongst the uninformed.fafangus wrote:Hi guys !!

Some SNES revisions can have a similar artifact regardless of cabling (e.g. SNS-CPU-APU-01), but this does not apply to the 1CHIP systems.
Which cable are you using?
