Something else came up in the discussion that was rather intriguing: a PSP port of United Game Artists' Rez. This too is sounding like a pretty sure thing. If you're unfamiliar with Rez (PS2, DC), it's a 3D floating-through-space shooter that has an incredibly clever synthesis between music and gameplay, with the electronica soundtrack building up in time with the player's actions. The game was designed by Q Entertainment founder Tetsuya Mizuguchi, who recently designed Lumines (PSP) and produced Meteos (DS). Anyway, with this upcoming port as well as the once impossible to find PS2 version of Rez being made available again, you shouldn't have any problems getting your hands on the game if you desire.
Finally, the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly reports that Virtua Fighter 5 will see release on PlayStation 3, "and it might be [home console] exclusive." My source didn't have any information on that particular rumor, other than assuring me that arcade version is "great."
Stupid fucking Sega has the best 3d fighting series ever in VF, and they don't take advantage of Xbox live. Here it's the only thing that could make VF4 Evo more perfect and they're making it Sony exclusive AGAIN. Ugh. Makes them more money, but does it make their game any better?
Rez was interesting, hope they up the difficulty a little in the conversion.

Actually the game is quite hard if you manage to achieve a 100% hit rate (which is difficult to do anyway, I still haven't managed 100% on stage 5). The 'tera' level bosses are quite brutal. Getting the good ending is quite a feat, as well.
I hope if they do the conversion, they will add a couple extra levels or at least a few remixed tracks. Also support for the Trance Vibrator would be cool - the PSP has a USB port, right?
Cool news though if it turns out to happen. I may have to buy a PSP if that's the case -- kind of unfortunate, as I've had my eyes on a GP2X for a while.

Completely agree with you Neon. I was gutted when I heard that Virtu Fighter 5 was going to be a PS3 exclusive. Stupid Microsoft and stupid Sega. I REALLY wanted to play this on Xbox Live, but now i'll have to make do with DOA 4, which isn't even in the same league as the VF series.

Actually, in the latest Famitsu X360, Sega said they are thinking about bringing VF5 to the X360 because of foreign markets.
Heh, it just might happen.
Approach your target and attack! Your mission starts now! ARE YOU READY!?

Of course Sega can always just release VFX360, and still advertise VF5 as an exclusive arcade conversion for PS3.
As for Rez, this is great news. I wonder if Tetsuya Mitzuguchi will be working with Sega again - they would own the rights to that game I'd think.
...Is there something wrong with me, or wrong with the games industry? - The only reason I'm even half intersted in the PSP is for remakes of two games I've already played the shit out of - Rez, and Landstalker.
Go figure
The PS2 has the trance vibrator as well. Having played both extensively, I would probably give the nod slightly to the PS2 version, but here are the pros and cons of each:
DC:
+Cleaner graphics (especially when using VGA)
+Somewhat cleaner sound
+Mouse support
-30fps
-Control (see PS2)
PS2:
+60fps
+Trance Vibrator
+Improved graphics on some minor details, like when you break the layer cube open
+Control -- the control is tweaked slightly. Using either analog or digital, the cursor moves faster than on the DC version. This makes the game easier, but more enjoyable, since you can target enemies more smoothly. I still wish this game had a sensitivity adjust option, but the PS2 version is a big improvement (unless you're using the mouse on the DC).
-Less antialiasing. This is hard to notice while playing though.
-Some textures are lower resolution. Ditto. The game doesn't have very many textures anyway.
-Sound is slightly more muffled.. I think it may be compressed more on the PS2 or something.
I mainly play the PS2 version these days, since I have it hooked up via component (better than the svideo I'm using on DC, but not as good as DC VGA), plus I have the trance vibrator and I like the control in this version.

I thought about the DS too, but the core gameplay would be much too easy if you used the touchscreen. Perhaps if they modified the gameplay mechanics in some way...

Or just make it maniacally harder.

VF4 was, and VF5 will be impossible to play online. That is the downside for having a fighting engine leaps and bounds ahead of everyone elses. Current internet speeds are just not fast enough. If you've played the game competitively, you'll know what I'm talking about.
If it does come out online, expect either problems, or much less sensitive controls.

Gotcha. PS2 exclusivity still prevents an arcade perfect conversion, though that's not as big of a deal.
Aren't we all done with Rez anyway? I know people are very excited about the Psp and all, but how about a NEW game???

Thanks, better fps and smoother aiming means I will opt for the PS2 rev then.
