Anyone shmup-ify their vehicle(s)?

Post by Zweihander »

Anyone?

With that question asked, I have plans for my mode of transportation...

Image
(very crude rough draft; edited a pic in photoshop.)

She's a brand-new 2004 Chevy Malibu.

Shmups denizens.... ....should I?

(and yes, she'll have a custom license plate, "IKARUGA"...)

Dude, you should install a Reflect-Force on it. Might help lower the insurance rates. (Just kidding  )

Dude, no. People will laugh at it. You can only get away with flashy graphics on a car with already flashy looks. You need some alloys and an inch less height first. Don't go too far with fibreglass shit glued to it unless you're going to make it genuinely perform, as people laugh even more at flash cars with no guts ;-)

I have a car that looks totally standard, but instead of the normal 160BHP the engine is throwing out 275 (that's nearly as much as a BMW 540 V8, in a car weighing much less). At this point, I would feel comfortable about changing the wheels to something tasteful but better, and I'm considering a plain double racing stripe.

There's too many sheds on the road (look this up) - don't be one of them ;-)

I know this is off topic (not shmups related). But check out the Zelda mobile. Scroll down. The guy will never need directions. As long as he's in Hyrule.

I wouldn't be using fiberglass.. o_O I'd just be painting it on myself, then using some kind of protective finish. If i can get a metallic blue or orange paint (as opposed to just a basic paint) then i'll use it, but otherwise, I fully intend to make this a reality. As pretty as the car is... it's too bland for me. O_o I'd like to personalize it..

That mockup looks like you drew a moustache and eyebrows on your car. Honestly, I think it looks stupid. After all these negative posts and you're still saying you intend to make it reality, Snap out of it man....

...you show me a better way of making this car an embodiment of the Ikaruga. go into photoshop, or motherflippin' MS PAINT if you have to. I honestly don't see how one can say that, unless they can improve or surpass said design.

You just posted it exactly what I would have done (which is nothing), and it looks better already. Go ahead with the personal license plate thing though. I didn't mean to be an ass but I don't know any way to state my opinion other than bluntly.

Image EDIT: decided to take your advice.... .....I admit, the patterns in front DID INDEED look like eyebrows and a moustache. >_<

How's it now? More in-tune with the Ikaruga ship itself, It would now have the patterns only going down the sides. i.e., one blue and orange marking per side, and perfectly symmetrical.

Sorry if I came off as an overtly-defensive ass. O_o;

Thanks for the feedback, honestly... good thing someone caught that in the conceptual stage of design. XD

cute, but a tad too busy for my tastes. ^^;; i just want an aesthetically-sound embodiment of the Ikaruga.

..though the fronts of the right and left rear-view mirrors will have the kanji for "Ika" and "Ruga", respectively... XD

It's much easier to take the one way street, and speed against traffic while weaving in and out of cars, and listening to fast paced techno. :(

I already beat you to the IKARUGA license plate  . I have a black Impreza with white logos for G.Rev and the Guardian Heart logo from TFV on the back of the trunk. *-neo

Niiiice... ..but afaik, vanity plates are limited on a state-by-state basis, so unless someone else in this hick state of Indiana has that plate, i shouldn't have a problem. ^__^

I got bored earlier and created an animated gif (and an accompanying YTMND page) showing the advantages of the Chevy Ikaruga.

HAHAHA, that gif is funny man. Hmm, as far as the paint job maybe a silhouette of one of the ships on the hood (like how the old t-birds looked... except spaceship instead of bird).

Ugh... wouldn't you rather just get a better color than white? You should spend the money on a paintjob... (that's just my personal taste, though)

You could try getting Orange County Choppers to build you a bic, bristling with all those weird spikes and things that are on the Ikaruga.. Might end up tacky as Hell, but it might do a more accurate job of capturing the embodiment of Ikaruga :) And cost a lot of money.

Well.... Here's the things that are for-sure:

**lower third of the car will be black.
**kanji for Ika and Ruga will be on the side-mirrors.
**there will be some sort of blue and orange markings on the sides.
**IKARUGA license plate.

Basically, the only thing up for changing would be the patterns themselves. This pic only depicts a very rough draft, and before finalizing any designs for the sides, I'll study the Ikaruga ship's design a bit more closely, to be sure to imbue that style into the car.

I'm not sure if I'm looking at the original or the edit, but I think it's not too bad :) The trick to staying away from what bloodflower says will be to make sure it's totally clear this is an Ikaruga mod, and not a failed wanna-be-attempt at "pimping" your car the traditional way.

So you need a way to paint those flames or whatever so shmuppers will appreciate it for what it is, without 'tuning' folks going "look at that amateur with his flames". I dunno how to do that, but I thought the thing looks kinda promising atm. :D Maybe add images of a bunch of electronics, wires, I dunno whatever ? Making clear it's a space ship and not the japanese dukes of hazard :)

This is true wherever you go. Always that fucking anonymus person who has nothing better to do and go around keying up other cars, especially in a mall parking lot of all places. Park an exotic supercar in one of those type of public parking lots, risk the chance of it being keyed or even stolen by a professional car thief. ^_~

I don't think it's worth it. I've seen cars with anime motifs to them, with mixed results...mostly bad.

You got to do it on the downlow, so those in the know know what's up. Like me painting my helicopter orange.

It's a General Lee for the new era!

Except somehow the Confederate flag is more tasteful, and less horrible-looking. :o
