I know I shouldn't (someone died), but I'm finding this so hilarious.

Reddit is saying the fire that killed someone was another fire? So you may be able to enjoy it guilt free.

Better moral of the story: don't try to put out a fire with cardboard, and don't leave cardboard on the fire while you go get water.

Really, this is the stupidest thing. When he gets the blanket and attempts to smother it he could have actually got the fire out, but then he stands back and uses it to fan the flames. :|

Doesn't he have a pillow, wool, or something fireproof?

You've got to smother a fire. :|

The man's sense of urgency really bothered me. Taking like half a minute to get like a small batch of water. He even walked back to his computer to cut the audio while the flames spread. :?

It also bothered me that he took his time to carefully step over that box in the middle of his room every time he came and went instead of sliding it out of the way. At one point he almost slips and falls because of it. :|

So many mistakes.

Just moving everything away from the fire would have been the best bet (if carrying the trash out wasn't an option).

The things he did before the fire started were questionable as well. Wiping lighter fluid all over everything and then putting a flame to it is just nuts.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

This is likely the product he used, which is absolutely astonishing why something like this exist. From what was discussed on the #shmups IRC channel, when he light the "match" the flammable fuel in the casing caught on fire....which he did the unthinkable.

Unlikely - it is more likely he mishandled the lighter fuel when filling the lighter spilling (overfilling) some fuel on the outside of the case - which would explain why he initially had such difficulty to get it to work. Once he dropped the burning unsealed "case" in the waste paper bin, the fuel inside was free to spill out and further fuel the fire.

When I was a kid, one of my friends tried to shorten the fuse of a fireworks rocket by burning it with a lighter.

Inside their living room.
Spoiler
Thankfully he threw it out of the window fast enough
Regarding the video, I think he could've taken the blanket that he was swinging with, quickly shower it with water so it's fully wet, and then cover the fire with it
EDIT: Wait.. I think the bag that went on fire was full of smaller fast food bags and obviously, they're oily so... :(

The first part is correct, but he actually dropped the case to the ground and put the match inside the bin. But the match was still burning and set on fire the paper towels soaked in lighter fluid.

In any case, looks like a terrible product. Just use a normal lighter instead.

You are correct. He does use a "normal" lighter at 1:37 - though it's a style that tends to use lighter fluid rather than butane. I would imagine that he has regularly handled lighter fluid in this complacent manner in the past.

Is it bad that I'm reminded of the scene in Naked Gun where Frank Drebin investigates an apartment and ends up burning it down by accident?
