Megaman 1 NES madness

Post by undamned »

I've put some effort into my MM collection, but I'm bowing out on this one:

I used to collect sports cards and comic books and I judge game boxes accordingly. Even though it's sealed, its not mint (corners), and for that kinda money, I'd want something that would give me reason to never look at another copy.

How the hell can you forget to open a game? And at hat price I don't care how sealed the game is, it isn't worth that price because it's not that rare.

The art is so hideous I want to pour bleach into my eyes.

 Shoot. This has got me thinking. I have a complete, and in excellent condition, copy of this game. I bought it at a bookstore a year ago, for only $5 (also found Metroid & Gyromite too at the same price! 8) ). I doubt I could get even $50 or higher for it though. I think it's the least desirable Mega Man for NES collectors. Plus, the box art is truly disturbing.

Seconded. It's like a 2nd grader's interpretation of TRON, if that movie were filmed in a bio-mechanical tropical oasis.

True, but at least it isn't as bad as the Mega Man 3 cover where Mega Man is shooting that enemy in the crotch!

Nice find UD! :D It's tought to find NES games still shrink-wrapped and brand new like that, unless it's Wheel of Fortune, or something like that.

Heh, I got a Mint, opened copy off Ebay last year that looked better than that for like $30. The cover art is amazing too, seriously.

Actually if it is indeed mint and you get some good pics of it, I'm almost positive you could get $50 for it. And actually 1 is one of the more valuable/collectable of the original series (if it's in super shape).

Every time I see this game, I instantly wonder if the "artist" who created that box cover has killed himself in shame. I should call Capcom and ask them.

That is insanity, you could buy one or more really good PCBs at that price. Hope the buyer enjoys his $425 worth of saran wrap, aged cardboard and craptastic art. :x

Dave, you have to consider this: Someone charges $425 for a sealed NES Mega Man. If this happens a few times, then guess what? Finding a bare cart for 10 bucks becomes extinct. This mentality comes into play: "Gee, I don't know what Mega Guy is, but someone's getting $425 for a sealed one, I can SURELY get 50 for a bare cart." Do you like gaming? If you do, then you have to realize that this hurts all of us.

Ok, now I see where you're coming from. Yeah, I love gaming, which is why I am greatfull for Ebay, where I've found plenty of otherwise impossible to find games.

That would not be the case for Mega Man, or should I say Capcom's game. Capcom has a hibit of reprinting it's older game on new system AGAIN AND AGAIN.

How many version of Mega Man (Rockman) or GnG are there? And you know the answer that a bare Mega Man cart will never reaches $50 without the help of inflation.

I really surprise that sealed copy of Mage Man could actually asking for $400+. All the velue comes from it collecter value, if you open the package, you lose $420?!?!

Not true. First off, I can almost guarantee that you will not see another sealed MM1. Secondly, it's all about the condition of the box/materials as far as value. As an example, I've seen bare X3 carts range from $40-$80ish for a couple years now. You throw in a great condition box and manual and good pics of it all and you'll probably be breaking the $100 mark. You have to compare a complete game to a baseball card. A valuable card in super condition can command a stout price. You take a valuable card that can be seen through the wrapper of a still sealed pack of cards (yes, I've seen this before) and it is worth whatever rediculous price a collector wants to pay.

@undamned

Can you list all the Megaman games you own? How many are there anyway?

Also, do you just collect US versions, or all versions of every game?

It doesn't hurt anyone. As UD said, a sealed mega man is ridiculously, exceedingly rare. Bare carts are still plentiful and I really doubt that this auction would cause the demand to skyrocket so much that a bare carts price would be brought up to 50$. This is really an isolated incident, an anomaly that isn't going to affect the rest of the Mega Man market, so to speak.
Feedback will set you free.
