TRP-STGT 2015 Planning

Post by trap15 »

I want to run another STGT. You guys all want me to run another STGT (right? right.)

When is the best set of 5 weeks? (Select the 'best' weeks, I'll cut off the poll when I'm satisfied with the counts)

Did you like the mini-teams from last time? Did you like a previous gimmick more? What sort of gimmicks would you like to see? What was good about previous STGTs and what was bad about them?

I'm hoping to get this rolling in the next couple weeks.

I'll be able to play for all of the above dates, but I picked the 2 best ones for me (11 Oct - 14 Nov, 15 Nov - 19 Dec).

I'm not too familiar with STGTs, but I just want to have some competition!

Changed the poll so that you can select any set of weeks.

This is for availability. If all the weeks work fine, please select all of them, don't just pick one for vanity.

I didn't participate in previous ones, but it would be motivation to learn some new games.

I'd participate but I'd prefer a solo competition this time.

Making a team was too much like hard work and effort. I'd rather just work my arse off on the schumps all week.

Marvellous! :D
Mini-teams where cool. Don't really care about gimmicks. Good was getting to try out games that i otherwise wouldn't. Some games being retarded in playing for score (Shitgeki Stinker, I'm looking at you) was pretty bad.

I agree with this, Teams just seem completely unnecessary... 1 man band all the way.

Tough choice. Either start now and end right up in time for the semester's end exam rampage or begin in the rampage and end in summer break.

Teams, no teams I don't care, I just want to jump back into STG again and play whatever marvellous selection of weird kusoge you have for us this year.

I really enjoyed the small team dynamic, I played more than I probably would have if competing alone because I felt a sense of responsibility to my team-mates. There's also the mini-competition of friendly rivalry within teams.

Also, as much as I complained about a couple of the games last time it actually helped to level the playing field somewhat by having everyone play games that most weren't familiar with. So yeah, more weird and wonderful please.

Small teams were an excellent idea, and I hope they become the norm.

Really looking forward to this.

Voted November as Mushihimesama PC is slated to be out by then, in which case it could be an option for this tourney.

That would kind of tie everyone to having a PC that can run it, and buying it though.

I'm doing MAME-able arcade only, CV1000 games will not be on it. Probably no CAVE at all.

Trap15 has a record of picking precisely 50% awesome games and 50% fucktardedly awful ones like Gemini Wing

I should point out for first time participants that he always runs the tournament really well though.

uhh that was probably the best game pick I've ever made, so I dunno what you're talking about.

Gemini Wing was actually my favorite game from the TRP-STGT; I've said it multiple times before but I felt that Sengeki Striker was awful. Still, it's fun to get a range of different games, as long as they don't suck. Bring on Jaleco Week 2: Ganbare Boogaloo! And no Video System unless it's Turbo Force, thank you.

While it is indeed tough to assemble and coordinate a team, I think the tournament benefits greatly from rallying the troops, so to speak. I think that it would make it feel a little too detached going solo.

Perhaps the largest consideration for scheduling should be that a number of players may be in school/college, so perhaps when it's generally "break" time? I voted for what I thought would work in any event.

Of course I want to take part in this. I don't care what the timeframe is, I'm free. As long as we don't have totally horrible games like 1945kIII being played, I'm fine with whatever is chosen.

Last time I took part in this, I wanted to throw in the towel half way through. Mainly because I am so used to taking my time to savour a shmup as opposed to switching to another one every other week. I also hope mushi doesn't release same time as STGT because if it does, I don't know how my performance will fare. For me having teams in a STGT is a double edged sword, whilst I like the camaraderie and collective responsibility of being in a team, it is a lot of effort, and I always feel like I should not let them down  but at the same time it would be nice to not have all that pressure even though it acts as incentive for shmupping.

But overall I am considering giving this another go, Trap always has the most unique shmupping taste and I am interested in what he will choose this time. I don't think I would have ever played Gemeni Wings if it wasn't for the STGT.

Gemini Wing is fucking amazing.

Also all possible times are equally bad for me so I'm good.

The only possible way this can fail to be a fun event, is if people complain about the game choices rather than just having a go.
