Should I get an RGB cable for my PS2?

I'm using an RGB monitor, but I've been using component because I got the cables back when I was playing on a consumer-grade CRT. Does RGB provide a higher video quality?

I haven't noticed any quality problems with the slim models under component.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you can spot noise in the output.

RGB lead won't carry prog-scanned hi-res (never mind 1080i which very few PS2 games output), that makes it less versatile than component, but in 240p and 480i on a CRT makes for as nice-looking picture as analogue signal can provide. So even if it's not better than component, the same RGB cable works with PSX (which doesn't output component signal at all).

Given that an "RGB Monitor" doesn't have to support 480p (though it could) that may be a non-issue - also the PS2 library is pretty 480i heavy (unless you are using something like GS Mode Selector). The issue with the PS2 RGB 480p (as far as I understand it - haven't tried it) is that it switches to sync-on-green (RGsB rather than RGBS) which was supported by some Sony products at the time.

Depending on the circumstances RGB (for 240p/480i) can be "better" than component because of the increased noise level in the PS2 component signal, though I seriously doubt that it would be noticeable on an RGB monitor - it may become somewhat noticable when the component signal is enhanced by a video processor.

My monitor can't do 480p. Does 480i/240p look better on RGB than Component? That's what I was trying to ask.
