In other news, Konami has ceased production on AAA games (excluding Pro Evolution Soccer):

It'll be interesting to see how well MGSV does in America this month. It's not doing too well in Japan right now, but western sales have always been 5-10x more important for this series. Maybe Konami was right all along.

I've seen it on Ps3, which I'm playing it on.Ji-L87 wrote:It's the map screen, indicators and icons (marked enemies, helicopter landing zones etc) all get cut off at the top and bottom earlier than the image of the map does and once I noticed it, it was really jarring.
Like an invisible clipping mask that's smaller than the map they're overlaid on...

Suikoden will be most sorely missed. That's one series I've always found peerless at what it did and I would be willing to play even that atrocious-looking DS one if I had a DS. There's no Suikoden like proper Suikoden so to speak.

Japan frustrates me. From what's happening at their game studios, to the public's apathy to their own games.
They just love that mobile shit.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
So I finally completed "Chapter 1" last night.
It really felt like it could sorta end there.
But right before that though I was raging like a mad man.
I lost count how many times I died in the the last few missions there.
Totally psyched up for "Chapter 2" now - seems like a lot of things are going to happen.

Spoiler
During the mission where you rescue Code Talker, I managed to sneak into the mansion (mostly) unseen. But getting him out of there? Man! First time I sneaked out I was like "YES!" and then I ran straight into the guys patrolling the tent after the bridge.
After that I accidentally threw the old man off a cliff, tried shooting down the gunship and failed etc etc etc.
The boss battle against the Skulls at the airport made me lose my shit again. Those guys just ate punishment, could waste x number of rank 3 rockets before anyone of them went down.
And then the Sahelanthropus fight, I died so many times and I was so, soooo close to completing it early on. When the Psycho girl was hovering before the fallen Sahelanthropus, I shot her with my grenade launcher and died, thinking I wasn't supposed to really kill her. Of course, later I realized that I only died because of splash damage. Hard to judge distance at that moment.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
You know, as a fan of The Cure, I'm gonna point out something.
A song of theirs is in this, but it's Friday I'm in Love. Which is from 92.
Aren't most of the songs on this from or before 84? I mean, they could have gotten Just Like Heaven, which was from 87. At least that was in the same decade.
Anyways...
As for the game...I really like it, and I have problems with it as well. I don't like the repetitive nature of it. That being said, it's got a very ADDICTIVE repetitive nature. Like Pokemon or something. I will sit and play this for hours and hours straight. The ability to do anything at all, keeps the game really interesting.
It could have used some proper boss fights (I've only encountered one...the others you just sorta run away).
Also, more locales would have been greatly appreciated. Even with Ground Zeroes, it's still just 3 (2, not counting it).
But it's certainly an interesting piece of work. And quite a time waster/killer/engulfer.

I got the platinum in 145* hours and enjoyed it the entire time. It's not my favorite game this gen, but it's probably in the top five.

The future of gaming!
And I thought the nickel and diming of DLC was bad (outfits locked on disc?!). These new microtransactions are more like microaggressions, if I may use some Tumblr-speak.

Seems to me this game has become a proving ground for internet noise-making tactics. Somehow, despite the highly emotional tone of many a comment, I doubt this DLC (or the Horse Armour) will stop anyone (who hasn't yet, such as myself) from buying the game. Meanwhile, it's being discussed for a little bit longer in the ever-opinion-having world of online comments.

Likewise I'm 63hours in and I'm at mission 28. I try to S rank most main missions and do all the objectives. I also spent a ton of time doing the side ops.DestroyTheCore wrote:Yup. It's just really sad that I ran into spoilers for this game when I was really early into it. Honestly can't surf the net these days without spoilers popping up left right and center.

I finished the game the other day. I think I started to grow sick of this game because of chapter 2 and the repetitive nature of side ops. I spent around 85 hours on MGSV in total. The ending was not so bad IMO even if the developers reused a lot of content for that rushed ending.

How many main ops are in Chapter 2? I'm yet to get there.

Anyone tried the MGO mode yet?
Since I'm on PC there's still a long wait ahead for me.

I just finished Chapter 1.DestroyTheCore wrote:18evil_ash_xero wrote:How many main ops are in Chapter 2? I'm yet to get there.
From looking at a FAQ, 11 of these are harder versions of earlier missions.
Am I right about that? I was hoping there would be some original ones mixed in.
I really can't see why they re-used content from Chapter 1. Even if they were a bit rushed, the game is still long as Hell.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Chapter 2 is junk.
The game is over, basically at the end of Chapter 1. Chapter 2 is basically "post game content". Which is just recycling earlier stuff, even down to the cinemas that go with certain missions.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of story videos, that are locked behind this stuff. So, you have to go through it, to get the story.
It's really irritating, as when you finish a mission, it is sometimes not enough to open up more missions. You have to even go do side ops, to unlock missions. It's complete junk.
I can see how one would be sick of the game, after finishing the whole thing. Personally, after I take a LONG break, I will probably play the game some more (after I beat it, that is), but I'm just going to do Chapter 1.
Other than the story stuff, Chapter 2 is useless. It's like the Chalice Dungeons, in BB, but with important cinemas.
Chapter 1 is more than long enough, anyway.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
The latest update to the game apparently changes something regarding a rather substantial loss. You probably shouldn't read the spoiler until you're a good ways into chapter 2, you'll most likely will know what I mean if it has occured:
Spoiler
If you replay Mission 11 for seven times and don't kill her you'll get Quiet back. Seemingly no narrative cut-scene or anything, but you'll be able to use her in the game again. At first I thought this is some sort of a joke yet it seems to be true, judging from all the videos and comments. While this is obviously a very lame solution it's still consequent as far as the "game universe" is concerned I'd say. I'm morbidly curious whether they'll whip up some story behind it or not at some point in time.
