Ikaruga Videos

Post by Bkeela »

Hi

I'm looking for demonstration videos of high level Ikaruga play.

Ikaruga.co.uk used to host just such videos, but now when you click the download link your taken to some old age home website. I'm also aware of videos posted on YouTube, but YouTube's not very good in my opinion for studying the techniques - I often need to watch in slow motion or frame by frame, and the YouTube UI actually obscures parts of the action.

I was just wondering of anyone knows of a source for demo videos, especially world record scores, that are actually good quality.

Thanks.

Youtube and Nicovideo are the main hosting services now. That said, if you want to study the videos frame by frame, find a good video on YT, use youtube-dl (or equivalent), and then pipe it into your local video player of choice, and it should work ok.

If you have a 360 you can download the top scoring runs from the leader boards, then you have perfect video quality :)
I love ikaruga superplays.
When you see some of the things players do when chaining and eating bullets, it makes me wonder whether the programmers designed the game in such a way that they knew someone would do the chains to that extent. Or whether players have just found ways to squeeze in more chains in less time beyond what the developers had intended??

Fucking amazing level design either way. Radiant silvergun and ikaruga have grown on me to be two of my most loved shooters. :)

Doesn't youtube compress video quality though?

Yeah, I've got the Steam version and can download top score runs. But I'll have to get some kind of video capture software to make best use of them - there is no ability to skip back or forward with the replays.

I have no doubt the makers designed specific chains. Perhaps even in chapter 4, they inserted multiple chain paths of various difficulty. If players have discovered tactics the designers never imagined, then all the more is Ikaruga a magical game.
