About eight years ago, I have played a lot of "Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams" on PC-Engine. And I really enjoyed that game.
Unfrotunatelly, I have no PC-Engine anymore.
But I really, REALLY would like to listen to that nice CD-Soundtrack again.
So if any of you know, where I could download these tracks.
Or if any of you could send me those really nice BGM Tracks.
That would be very very kind.
One little oddity to note: Cotton 2 comes in a Sega wide-case, not a normal jewel case. The genious who owned the copy of Cotton 2 (before me) that is currently residing in my collection attempted to jam everything into a normal jewel-case, which really warped the manual.
Thankfully, I had managed to purchase a bunch of spare Sega wide cases (read: I bought 5 copies of Greatest Nine 98 for peanuts and stripped the game, manual and backpiece from the cases), so I was able to swap it out.
Oh, and Rainbow Cotton suffers from some maddening auto-centering coupled with the fact that Cotton sits directly in the center of screen, obscuring what's infront of you (and her character model is rather large). I didn't see Appli anywhere in the game.

Yeah, my copy of Cotton 2 came with a cracked front case. I tried to replace it with a standard jewel case cover, but quickly learned that that was impossible.

I saw some screen shots of Boomerang today that made the character model look huge. It isn't such a problem in the other, earlier Cotton games I've played.
The hitbox is pretty small too, so don't be afraid to experiment a bit with weaving between bullets. Once you figure out where the "danger zone" is (pretty straightforward actually, it's generally near the middle of the sprite) you should feel pretty comfortable maneuvering around. And if you'd rather take some of the guesswork out of it, try Silk and Needle, their sprites are also the same size as they were in Cotton 2 (that is, pretty dang small).
Ok, my hi-score was coompletely wrong. When I typed there, I really found it strange.
It happens I checked the 11th place, not the TOP place. My current hi-score actually is 3623200.
I just saw this now, after showing up the game to my girlfriend, and she complained how Silk looks too much naked, and how every japanese game has to have a half-naked girl in there, etc etc
Herr Schatten wrote:So, how much should I expect to pay for Cotton 100%, Cotton 2 and Cotton Boomerang?
Back when I bought them some months ago, Cotton 2 cost me about 30$, and Boomerang was about 60$. I think the prices for at least the latter might be dropping though, as prof. ganson's deal a few posts above shows. As for 100%, I don't know if I've ever seen the PS version on eBay...someone on the forums sold his to me for about 20-25 or so, not sure how close to the "market" value that is...as for the SNES version, I honestly have no idea.

Now that you mention it - it's incredibly difficult to get information on the games via search engines. A query like "cotton fantastic night dreams" tends to dig up lots of bed linen and related products and you can be sure to get everything you ever wanted to know about shirts when searching for "cotton 100%". The developers Success having quite a common word as their company name doesn't help much either.
Ah well, at least the results are not as bad as those I got when I searched for information on DonPachi using the "DP" abbreviation that's so commonly used here on the forum.
Btw, I just visited the Cotton board at GameFAQs. WTF?
P.S.: Thank you BulletMagnet for the little price guide.
Allow me to be the first: it's terrible. Really, really bad. Not fun in the least. I haven't played the original PCE or arcade versions yet to compare, but they must have lost something major in the trip to the NeoPoke. It's an utter borefest of sluggish character movement and rhythmical button-tapping.
The only reason I got it is because I was a NGPC maniac and bought it immediately upon its English release, not knowing the depths of its decrepitude. The only reason I still have it is because it's scarce and the packaging is ace. Given its inflated price, there's no reason for a non-collector to bother with it. Fantastic Night Dreams? MORE LIKE POOPY NIGHT DREAMS. Snap.

I'm actually suspicious that the "Cotton" name might be some kind of typical Japanese "slightly wrong" reference to underwear...check the high score lists for the Saturn games (maybe the older ones too, I'm not sure) and the first couple of entries (before you've entered any of your scores in there) are BIG COT TON PAN TSU (and it goes on after that, but I don't recall them all offhand)....IIRC, "pantsu" is a Japanese term for "panties." I'm half tempted to write down the whole thing and ask someone to translate it, though I get the feeling I might be better off not knowing what it says.

"I find no fault in your logic."
It really is a very poor port. I was expecting more from the NGPC. But I keep it since it's the only shmup on the system and somewhat collectible.
I'm not yet sure about the gameplay myself, but I love the look of the game. I definitely don't think the game sucks.
"This is Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton, SNK's classic side-scrolling shooter for the Neo Geo Pocket Color.
Cotton is by no means new. Originally appearing on NEC's PC Engine, the game has since been released for the Super Nintendo, the Sony PlayStation, and the Sega Saturn game consoles. Unfortunately, none of these releases made it stateside, so very few Americans have tasted of Cotton's rich gameplay."
Right off the bat we're seeing a lack of research.

Yeah, good point. The reviewer does, however, make some useful observations about how the port to the NGPC differs from earlier versions. That is, they are useful if true. I have only played the pocket version myself.
Hey bulletmagnet, what about starting a hi-score thread for Boomerang? So we can see who is the worst player! (I've just checked, my current hi-score is 2151200 )
Go for it! I haven't checked recently, but my own highest score, IIRC, on defaults isn't much higher than 2 mil (if even that high). Beware when challenging me for the Worst Player crown on any game, you're in for the fight of your life!
How exactly do I unlock the possibility of mapping the command moves to buttons in Cotton 2 Saturn ?
If completed the game once using 8 credits and gained the apple/needle choosing and the visual on/off thingy.
I thought I would get the button mapping this way so I'm confused.
I found that throwing red, blue or green crystals will trap enemy's in shields also.
Also I know 3 command moves by now.
If you want to buy 100% Cotton (I think this was the way they wanted it to be read) be very careful, as the SFC box must contain the single MCD with some soundtracks and the main theme song.
Speaking of which, I'd love to buy the Jikkyou! Oshaberi Parodius soundtrack cause it rules big time but can't find it anywhere
