Everybody knows Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle. I recently got all three. First impression is that 2 is the best, but I also played it the most. I suspect that 3 will grown on me. My wife says 3 is best because of the Kangaroo.
Have fun then

Ended up snagging the original Lunar: The Silver Star on JP Mega CD about a week ago. While the complete revision versions remove the annoying random battle engine, I still prefer the original (probably some nostalgia in there).

I keep meaning to snag a J MCD copy of Time Gal... always had a soft spot for that game. Taito apparently have the rights to Reika... I think we're long overdue for a new Time Gal game.

The most charming RPG of all-time? Love both for their differences, but I think I slightly lean toward the first remake for Silver Star and the original for Eternal Blue.

Hot damn, that's a great scanlation. Thanks!

(also turns out I was right on the SFC screen size limitations for big sprites, at least in the eyes of one dev!)

I never imagined she had such a central role in the making of the game. And she was just 22 years old. I admire the game even more now.

Any decent Mega CD recommendations outside of the obvious ones? (Final Fight / Sonic / Dennin Aleste / Bari Arm)

Devastator is decent. I enjoy Timegal but it is a Dragon's Lair style game. Popful Mail is good also.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Silpheed's perspective gave me trouble, but it's a journey like no other indeed if you're into "cinematic" side of shmups. Shame nobody seems to be doing anything like it with modern hardware.

Astrebreed is about the closest recent thing in terms of presentation to Silpheed... although, with all the constant camera-angle switching, it feels a bit more like Philosoma.

As for the Mega CD, this hasn't been mentioned as a recommendation above yet: Keio Yuugekitai/Keio Flying Squadron.

Learning them thangs: I once thought The Super Shinobi was subject to the US/EU's censorship revisions, and that I'd lucked out on my v1.0 copy chock-full o' copyright violations. Turns out, not only is 1.0 the only JP version ever published, it's also the only one with Rambo and Fake Batman. Generic Baldy Man and Fake Devilman were swapped in for the very first overseas release, v1.1.

So rather than rooting about for a Genesis/EU 1.1, it might be easier to just get the JP version and reap its exclusive cosplayers.

Is the first Turrican a good port? No up for jump?

Chiki CHiki Boys, coming from my usual sidescrolling diet these days (Almana no Kiseki, SMS Captain Silver and Rygar ports, NES Super Turrican), is almost too much. The most "next gen" experience I've had since Vampire Killer. Hard to tell where the game design ends and the presentation begins. Like, why does the sword-swinging feel so good? Why does everything look so cutesy? There's no usual, slightly disturbing imagery creeping in the likes of Cotton or Three Wonders.
Then just look how darn awesome-looking the playable character designs are. Up there with Forgotten Worlds' and Battle Mania's!

First Turrican seems to be one of those ports that runs too fast in NTSC, despite having a US release. I read at sega-16 that Turrican takes more damage than he's supposed to when getting hit. It seems to be an ok-ish port, but not as good as it should be. It does retain pressing up to jump, as well as adding a jump button.

I haven't had a chance to try the PC game yet, but I read about what they did to the US version of Streets of Rage 3. I recall thinking, "I liked Blaze better in red", "The female enemies look like they had colors painted over their skin", and "This seems a lot harder than the second one." Even with these thoughts, it was pretty disgusting to read about all the changes and the nonsensical reasoning provided by SEGA.

I bought this because Mega Turrican looked awesome on YouTube videos. I was pretty underwhelmed by the original. It was awkward to play. I did not realize it was running too fast, but I do recall dying quickly. I'll give it more time, but, without knowing the original, it "felt" like a weak port. It would probably be better if it was redone or something. Maybe even use the six-button controller as an option.

I have the M2's SoR Sega Vintage collection for 360 (not to be confused with the Digital Eclipse stand alone port of 2) and like how has the JP versions, especially for BK3. I was also surprised with the some of the differences in the JP Golden Axe. Not sure if there are any gameplay differences, but I like the character select screen with dripping blood.

Since I slowly try to ease myself into uploading a few gameplay videos I decided that a quick Undeadline 1LC would be a good start. It's fairly solid for the most part, but it also contains some upsettingly sloppy sections (particularly the Cemetery boss and the encore at Dracula). Highlight of the run is the boss at Ruins who can be a major nuisance, pretty happy how this turned out. The video glitches a bit at the final stretch in the Cemetery, that's a problem with the emulator I think. I still know next to nothing about video editing and all that stuff, so please bear with me. I also uploaded a Dragon Spirit (arcade) clear which looks terrible despite the source video being quite presentable. Don't know what happened there. At least I got an uniquely silly name to boot.

I'm certainly going to record a 1LC on Crazy, rather sooner than later if at all possible. While the aforementioned video might not reach BILesian superplay quality it hopefully is able to visualise why this game is so awesome. :)

I ordered Hell Fire, Elemental Master, and Puyo Puyo a couple days ago. I can't wait to get some more MD shumpping and puzzling on. I have MBM, but I decided to get Puyo Puyo since I don't have any unaltered versions of the first game and it's dirt cheap. I still plan to get 2 for MD, but it's lower on the priority list since I have the GG, SNES Remix, and GB versions of Puyo Puyo 2.

but but but Puyo Puyo 2 on MD has that REAL ARCADE OPERATOR MENU thing going on and I love it
and it's also the closest to arcade in general of all the versions, with the major difference being the sound being much worse because no proper PCM hardware+MD ROM space

And man, I really do need to practice my combo techniques. I spent yesterday beating some friends in it repeatedly, but it was all tiny things like four-chains. I built a staircase successfully once.

in other news, the ninja rooms in Shadow Dancer are annoying the crap out of me [I can get past them, but not consistently at all]
rest of the game is cake [the fire wheel is the most disappointing boss ever, why doesn't the giant spinning disc of fire hurt to touch]

Oh, and I popped in Streets of Rage 2 with a buddy. I made it to Mr.X, and then got shot to death., he'd run to the top right corner and shoot the fuck out of everything. What a fucker.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
