I have faith in Moss that they won't let us down. Gameplay wise and sound wise. I am really hoping to hear all new original tracks this time around. Only one more month to go and we will have gameplay hopefullyNick420 wrote:I hear ya man, I enjoy the raiden games, I enjoy traditional, less manic games just as much as bullet hell. It reads "Genre: 3D vertical shooting". I'm not really sure what to take away from that; maybe the other text is more telling. In my mind, the 3D could just be confined to the background, or it might be a predominantly vertical-scrolling shooter with weird camera angles and perspectives.

It's definitely coming out in 2015 yes but will we get a physical release in the West or digital?. I'm just grateful that we get a STG on X1.

UFO Interactive would most likely be the publisher in the "West", though there is some chance that H2 Interactive might get it - but neither of them have shown any interest in recent years in physical releases of their charges. Frankly there is a good possibility that there may not even be a physical release for the Japanese market.

'Vertical' is the key word there. We're def getting a traditional Raiden, just 3D on a top-down 2D plane like III & IV, thank the Lord.Aisha wrote:It reads "Genre: 3D vertical shooting". I'm not really sure what to take away from that

The perspective of those screenshots makes me think we're not getting a traditional Raiden here.
We're probably getting something Astebreed-ish.

Just promotional material to spark interest from a younger crowd. It's likely all from the attract mode.

I'm pretty sure the second one of those screenshots is a non-cutscene shot. Notice the explosions.
Also, notice how all three shots are from the same angle. I'd be willing to bet that's the angle you'll be playing most of the game from.

I am getting chills just imagining how good the attract mode is going to look based on the pics. The game looks like it'll be much darker than previous titles, too. Just look at the city shot, the buildings partially ruined, the civilian cars stranded among the wreckage below, and the other three screens as well: the ominous red glow from the tank's "eyes", and the menacing ancient pillars several times the size of the Raiden jet. Also from what I can make out on the second pic on the right, there are tanks in the foreground, and a massive battle is raging throughout the valley, with the Raiden jet attacking what seems to be a giant walker with a single gun. The canyon scene reminds me of a scene from Bryce Canyon in Resistance 2, maybe it leads to the player's doom. I'm also on edge and literally biting my nails waiting to hear what the music will be like this time around; I hope it'll blow the other Raiden games' music away... But it's going to be hard to top 2/DX's music though. Hell, I'm so excited for this game and I don't even have an Xbox One. I'm hoping for that unlikely windows PC version though

It is starting to look like Raiden V is more or less "simply" Raiden with updated graphics and game play based on this classic:

Raiden: Good for its time.
Raiden 2/DX: Best in series
DX New Release: Amazing
Raiden III: Garbage, aside from Stages 1 and 3
Raiden IV: Good, but mostly just arrangements of II's music with a few original tracks.
Raiden Fighters: Whatever
Raiden Fighters 2: a bit better but still whatever
Raiden Fighters Jet: Absolute garbage, worst shmup soundtrack in existence
Viper Phase 1: Strange, but fitting new flavor
I'm hoping Raiden V doesn't have crap music like most of III and the Fighters series. Also, arrangements are nice but we've already heard them. All new original tracks are what we need. (Although a modern arrangement of Gallantry would be awesome, because the one by Daisuke Nagata just ruined the original)

I pretty much agree with that assessment, except being harsh on Raiden III.
Honestly the music of the Raiden Fighters games kills the series for me. I just don't care about what I'm playing if I have to listen to that shit to play it.

I think the complete opposite of every one of your assessments so i'l put it down to a taste thing. I'l take the raiden fighters soundtracks over all those other wanky yawn fest sound tracks of the original raiden games. 2/DX soundtrack is actually so abysmal i can't even stand to play the games without muting them, garbage.Furry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:It's godlike. Some days I wish they would have just stuck to "Gun Dogs"."Raiden Fighters" is to "Raiden" as hamburger is to ham; both are delicious, but they don’t have much in common except a name.

Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
Well, if I could be less harsh on III, I'd say the soundtrack was trying to be more experimental by going for a newer sound. It comes off as inconsistent though. Stages 1 and 3 have the distinct Raiden sound. The rest sound like they should've been in the Fighters series. Stage 2 is basically a cover of Vampire Killer from Castlevania. Stage 3 being called Dawn of Sorrow basically confirms that Go Sato is a Castlevania fan.8BA wrote:I pretty much agree with that assessment, except being harsh on Raiden III.

Yes, I'm aware the Fighters series isn't meant to be classic Raiden, but 2 out of the 3 had Go Sato as the composer. I guess I was expecting more of the amazing sound he did in the past games. RFJ however, it seems that Seibu just told Yasuhiro Hashimoto, "It's our last game, do whatever the hell you want with the music." Look how that turned out; pure steaming garbage. At first I thought it was MAME's poor quality but after I realized the actual music was godawful, I was just shocked that something like that could be published as an actual game soundtrack.HydrogLox wrote:Frankly I still think the list needs more fixing - pull out the Raiden Fighters items. I think you are doing Go Sato an injustice here. The games in the "Raiden Fighters" series are much more frantic than the games in the "Raiden" series - so a "Raiden" style OST would be inappropriate for the "Raiden Fighters" series - and the shift in style as realized by Go Sato for the "Raiden Fighters" series is entirely appropriate - regardless of whether or not you like it as "music".Furry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:... but 2 out of the 3 had Go Sato as the composer. Similarly I'm no connoisseur of "Techno", however the "Techno" OST of the WipEout series fits it like a glove and sets the atmosphere perfectly - I'm still no lover of "Techno" but I still listen fondly to the WipEout tracks because of their association with the series.

The RF series is disassociated from the main in my book so it's not too offensive that they have that "Techno" soundtrack. I just think it sucks & the games are mostly lost on me because of it, but no biggy. They play quite differently anyway, so it's not a loss.
Honestly I don't think we could have asked for Raiden III or IV & yet we still got them anyway, reviving the series. Pretty amazing... & no word from RF since with good cause :p
... Still no Viper: Phase 2, but maybe one day

How are you all so blatantly wrong. RF soundtracks are incredible, and even if you don't like listening to them as music (which you should because they're holy-fuck-amazing), you absolutely have to admit that they're perfect mood-setters for the frantic intensity that is the RF games.
If you're listening to RFJ and think it's shit, you're either listening to the ACES ver (which is not very good), or you're listening to the arcade version without a low-pass like the board gives it (and thus it'll probably hurt your ears). RFJ's soundtrack may be inferior to RF1/RF2, but it is without a doubt impossible to define as "awful".
