3d printing Nemesis and Gradius bosses

Post by popawell »

Subject in title, I do 3d printing on the side for some spare cash. Nobody to my knowledge has done any of the more obscure bosses from the series, so I present to the forum what is waiting in queve for some downtime on the printers.

And of course I had to do this, accurate as possible to the Gradius II ref sheets. This one was test printed a while ago and is still a work in progress.

Here is the first test print, there are a few things I am not happy with specifically how thick some parts are once its glued together. A few contours were screwed up as well and need to be corrected, but otherwise this print is salvageable and will be painted and detailed:

Awesome sauce!! I doodle with 3D printers as well and have been thinking about printing some ships as well. It's just that life keeps getting in the way all the time :P Did you create them in 123D Design? I'm impressed. I've tried it but it only gives me a headache. I'm looking into Fusion 360 atm and it looks promising :)

Looking forward to see them finished and please share some WIP pics ;)

123D is a POS without a specific graphics card and processor setup, and even then it gets very chuggy once you get into more detailed models. My workaround was to 'seal' individual sections into another format that was much lighter on the program (the wings on the abbadon warship are like this). I honestly can't recommend Fusion 360 because it performs just about the same. I dabbled in google sketchup at one point but I don't care for the interface too much, but it can do much more with the same hardware as 123D and 360.

Question, does anyone have better references for the Metalion? I don't have much to work with especially for detail on the bottom. I built this out of photos of that little model that was released years ago, game sprite, and the original art sheets but I can't help but think I butchered the poor thing so far:

Performance is an issue with any 3D package unless you've got decent HW. The problem I've got with 123D is the lack of tools and views. I can live with Fusion for a while if it's got better tools for placing/aligning/measuring objects. SketchUp is just WTF! I guess getting an academic license for SolidWorks or 3D Max is the way to go.

Posted a question on the RepRap page over at FB asking the peeps what they use for modelling: https://www.facebook.com/groups/5809198 ... r%20models. It was kind of like asking for peeps' preferences of breakfast cereals  Though many of them suggested Fusion so I thought I'd give it a go until I can get my hands on either SW or 3D Max.

I'm seriously so jealous of people with 3D printers. I want one so bad, but I know I'd just drop 10k on the dumbest shit to print lol.

Guys I realise I'm probably in the wrong forum, but I haven't had any response on the framemeister forum. Hopefully someone can help me.
Does anybody know of any existing 3D printer files for wall brackets for RGB X-RGB mini framemeister?

Gradius is a Shmup. Why did you post this on the off-topic?
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.

Farewell.
