79½ hours more to unlock boss support expedition. I really wish I had done Ex25 and Ex26 earlier

Right now I'm looking to do

E2 (easy) -> E3 (medium) -> E4 (hard)

E2 easy: Rewards are rubbish so no point in clearing on a higher difficulty. I'll try to farm for Unryuu and Shoukaku. Will try to bring the weakest possible composition that lets me farm the map with ease. I'm currently leveling Ooyodo to 35 so I can use FCF for combined fleet maps.

E3 medium: Seems like medium is enough to get the BB radar as a reward. I'm unsure of what the ideal composition for E6 is going to be so I'll have to see what composition I want to bring

E4 hard: Seems like the best composition is going to be 2 Kongou, Ayanami, Yuudachi, 1CA and 1CVL. I'll be able to bring a relatively strong composition here so when I unlock support expeditions I'm hoping I'll be able to hard clear this.

Anyway, I've been playing a bunch of idol-raising card-collecting not-for-the-rhythmically-challenged mobile games (Tokyo 7th Sisters, iM@S Cinderella Girls and Love Live: SIF) the past few days, so I delayed my start while people have spent some time scouting. I was also concerned about the multiple ship-locking maps and how they interact, so I had to spend a bit more time planning my ship compositions.

Now I think I'm about ready to get started. So on that note, this is what I'm starting the event with.

I still don't think I've prepared enough (particularly instant repairs), but we'll see how it goes. Thankfully I don't need to farm for any of the older ships, so I can focus solely on picking up the seven new ones.

Notes:
I don't particularly trust either CL 5DD or 2CL 4DD, due to the apparent random routing for both, so I am taking both Kikuzuki (a guaranteed boss route) and raw attack power via 2CA CAV into it. You do need CL 2DD to even enter the map though, so there's no getting away from that. I'm also purposely taking my lesser used ships into this because of ship-locking, though thankfully most of them are at a good level aside from Mogami who got relegated when Tone Kai2 and Chikuma Kai2 arrived on the scene. >_>

Also, shoving a CA/V into the flagship position at least guarantees (or sets up for) a kill during yasen, since this composition doesn't have the safety blanket of a second shelling round via BBs. The other two CA are at the bottom of the composition, just in case my CL and DDs are incompetent.

Done it in five. Comically, Kikuzuki took critical damage during most boss fights, but this is a very easy composition, maybe 10 buckets used on quick repairs. At least Mogami got a couple of levels being in the flagship position. Only notable drop was another Tokitsukaze, but I wasn't expecting much from E-1 to begin with. I'll work on E-2 and E-3 tomorrow afternoon.

Surface Task Force composition is used.
Had to research hard today, because I'm still not sure of the ideal compositions for each map. Therefore I'm taking it a little slower than usual, as I don't want to commit a critical routing ship to a map where she'll be ship-locked, like the last event when I used Ryuujou in E-3 and then found out that she enables a more consistent route in E-5. However, since E-1 ships can be used in E-2, I quickly threw together something using the E-1-locked ships and a few lesser-used ones, and tried it out.

First run didn't go quite according to plan, though, as I got to the boss but she escaped with about 140HP remaining. Goddamn those two escort BBs.

EDIT: Swapped equipment around a little, loading up on full torpedo bombers rather than the mixture of torpedo and dive bombers I had before. Also I note that I'm using 2x Tenzan (601 Air) instead of 2x Ryuusei Kai, as the Tenzan (601 Air) have accuracy-up stats. First clean kill in three attempts (second attempt was a retreat from the first node). Still not entirely convinced full torpedo bombers are the way forward, since the torpedoes have a high chance to miss, but they worked on the first try with the setup, so we'll see. I'm also not sure equipping both CVL with the SCAMP is a good idea either since they attack before the BBs and often miss/chip - when they do hit, it's pretty much a killing blow, though.

EDIT2 (13/08/15 @ 01:06):
Jesus Christ, that took entirely way too long to get the final kill. Perhaps ten attempts - and an unnecessary amount of buckets burned - with the majority of them being retreats when the enemy CA, BB or *shock* transport ship gets lucky and crits something in the first fleet. In the end, it took an extremely lucky opening torpedo bomber salvo (cleared one CA and one DD from the final fleet), followed by the boss support expedition (yes, I resorted to that) taking out the other enemy CA, followed by Kiso actually targeting and killing the remaining DD with her opening torpedo, to get into a position to clear.

Even then, CL Demon survived with about 90HP, and it took Takao's no-ammo-left just-barely-double-crit in yasen to kill her.
All the while I was afraid that the idiots in the second fleet would aim for the BB escort. >_>
No notable drops besides a Kinugasa I'll probably speedlevel for the 20cm no.3. Onward to E-3.

I heard something about that. Isn't she supposed to be weakened if you beat the transport nodes in E-2 to E-4 within a specific time limit or something?

I've decided to go safe and focus on farming drops instead of doing E2-E5 on harder difficulties.

Super lucky E4 last kill with a poor setup with Ashigara and Haruna sniping the boss from full health during night phase with both enemy BBs alive. Before that my two torpedo capable ships took out two enemy DDs during torpedo phase.

Nothing too amazing from E2-E4. I'll have to come back to E3 once I'm done with rest of the maps to farm for Shoukaku and Mizuho

Now I'm looking to do E6 on medium for the special item that supposedly lets you K2 the cranes. I did a test run and I was able to take down half HP from the boss but my entire fleet was wrecked. I'll have to wait until I can do support expedition to do the map. Meanwhile now with 4 subs I can actually do world 4 weekly reliably with subs. 16 hours until the 80 hours expeditions finishes

Resources down to 67k/61k/53k/32k and 463 buckets, thanks to me trying to build Yamato class in LSC twice (such a bad idea).

If you S rank nodes K, X, Y on E-7 multiple times it is possible to lower the boss armor to 190. It resets at 00:00 JST though.

Yeah, I just took a look at the wiki. K, X and Y are scattered all over the map, so I'm wondering if a chipping run and then lowering her armour for the final kill is the way to do it.
I certainly don't expect anyone to do it in one go without Hayasui refuelling everyone along the way.

From what I've heard and seen people reporting clearing those nodes once is enough. The armor value itself doesn't change and the debuff seems to be hidden

E-3 Hard is boiling my blood at the moment. Either someone gets sent home at the first node from a torpedo strike, or there's not enough standing at the boss to make a serious dent. Maybe five visits to the boss node so far out of ten tries, and out of all of them, three have seen Yukikaze launch her torpedo cut-in at something else, or I barely scratch the boss with the other ships. Choukai in particular seems to like being the target in all of them, as she gets critted all over the place.
Maybe it's better to drop to Medium for E-3 and forego the better chance at acquiring Mizuho for safer passage to the later maps…

Now it's the time to spend the next day or two preparing and planning on E7, and then doing full marathon on the map starting after Japanese midnight. Teruzuki is one of the most important ships for me to have so I'm really hoping to pull this off.

I saw people struggling with E3 even with Hotels, which is one of the reasons I gave up on medium. Mizuho drops on easy so it's probably the best idea to farm her on easy before clearing on medium. You should get away without using almost any buckets on easy while medium is a whole another story. If you have no luck with Mizuho dropping it might not be a bad idea dropping the difficulty to easy. You'll miss on the Yamator radar but apparently it's just a bad version of FUMO radar, which you already have. I've seen players with higher stockpile than yours run dry on resources by E7 so it might be wise to play safe if you want that E7 hard clear.

Yeah, this looks like an event where going full hard mode will drive you insane. While ideally I'd like to have a hard clear on all of the maps, thankfully you only need to clear E-7 on Hard for the First Class Medal. Losing out on the extra items is a bit of a bummer, though.
I'll give Hard a couple more tries to see, but if it ends up being the same, I'll have to drop to Medium.

EDIT: Tried Easy to see if farming it for Mizuho is feasible, and the difference is like night and day. Also, on the very first attempt:

often I would get sent off route and I have to refresh and wait for morale/use mamiya
after repairing ships, I have <1k fuel left...
casualties: damecon: 5, repair goddess: 1, mamiya/irako: 5
due to the random routing of this map I recommend using damecons on the extra slot...

Congrats! Very impressive on the resource usage front. Did you use surface or carrier fleet? Any specific strategies on getting to X and Y? How did you use support expeditions? The costs seem like they will ramp up fast if you keep getting bad nodes

First I used surface task force, with Akitsumaru, to kill X and Y twice.
Then I switched to carrier, ran both supports. After a while I decide to sparkle 2nd fleet as well.
Keep in mind I punched holes ($$$ item, you get 5 for free if you cleared hard for E1-E6) into 5 ships in the main fleet and 4 ships in the 2nd fleet. (BBs hold repair goddess, CV/DD hold damecon) so that allowed me to chip with much less retreats not counting compass trolls.
Comp was: CA 2BB 3CV + 2CA fBB CL 2DD with CA flag holding FCF for chipping.
Same fleet for final but replaced Mutsu with Musashi, Choukai with Myoukou, and Akizuki with Shigure.

15 attempts on E-3 Easy, which is about 1/10 of the time spent trying to get Roma last event. >_>
I picked up a sixth Shoukaku a few runs before this, lol.
Now to actually try and clear the stage…

Got to e-4 on easy without too much trouble. Now, consistently, my highest level ship (Hiei, lv77) is getting one shotted either in the second night battle node, or one time during the first phase of the boss battle (after which, I smacked my laptop in anger, and it hard reset, negating the tiny amount of progress I made). What a good game.

The wiki says having Haruna and Hiei sends you to node B, but no it doesn't.

Read it correctly.
(Kongou + Haruna) or (Kirishima + Hiei) will start at node B.
Kongou and Haruna together, or Kirishima and Hiei together. Anything else goes in other directions.

E7 is driving me crazy. My rate for reaching the boss is under 25% and I have never had to retreat because of ship damage.

With carrier force I keep getting sent south just as much as east, and from node J I keep getting sent just as much to Y as to M. Insane amount of resources are being wasted on support expeditions. The boss herself doesn't seem that bad but at this rate I'm afraid I'll run out of resources and sanity before I can chip the bar down and go for the final kill.

Finally. Never thought I'd have to break out the boss support for an early event map, which makes it clear my fleet still has a long way to go before it can tackle the Hard version of a map of this difficulty.
Even then, it still took three attempts - first attempt was an almost, second attempt I was sent back home by the pre-boss node, third attempt finally cleaned her out. Yukikaze with a torpedo cut-in finally did the job, though I didn't trust Yukikaze enough to cut-in regularly throughout, so I had equipped her with the Skilled Lookouts to make sure.
I had brought Ryuujou along as I assumed she'd be decent, but in reality her bombers don't last anywhere near long enough for her to attack with. I'd assume it has something to do with the pre-boss Tsu-class AACI'ing everything in sight, but lesson learned: stick with the Chitose sisters.
Shigure and Maya sharing AACI duties may have helped in some cases throughout, but there were times (mainly against the final boss) where I preferred Maya to AACI, because when she didn't, the escort CV Himes were still able to attack.

Going to scout E-4 on Easy and try to farm for Umikaze before setting off on a clear run. But not until I'm done with the weeklies.

Any specific reason why you are running with all those radars? Especially radars on BBs instead of AP shells. Double line for pre-boss nodes seems like a weird choice as well. Running 8 Reppuu, especially if they're double chevron, seems like an overkill too. I've had the best experience running with 4CV(L) that all have at least one torpedo and one dive bomber. I would have used Bismarck on E3 as well since she seems super useful for E6.

E4 shouldn't be that bad until the final kill where the north route gets powered up forcing you to deal with night battle nodes. In the end it comes down to one or two ships getting good hits on the boss with type 3 shells. The only problem is getting that far

I haven't had much luck ever with AP shells - Type 91 AP, Type 91 AP *6 or Type 1 AP - as they cut-in far too much and often do tickle damage. With radars I generally get double-attacks both day and night and they do better damage, and have slightly better accuracy.

I was running 10 Reppuu originally - 3x on Akagi and Kaga, 2x on Ryuujou and Jun'you - but switched to 8 Reppuu for a little higher attack power and it worked.
Double-line in Combined Fleet isn't that bad actually, it has high torpedo hit chance, higher shelling chance, and a slight evasion-up modifier as well. As for Biscuit, she's only at Zwei remodel, so she's not hugely different to the Kongou sisters at the moment. (I only need one more Medal, goddamnit…)

I've been picking at E-4 the past few days, and Hard is quite painful no matter what route you go through. Even with full night equipment procs, enemies seem to like ignoring the debuff and torpedo CI or DA on a whim, sending people home; and the north route has an irritatingly accurate elite BB. The boss node, too, has those two BBs that like to knock two or more of my ships out of commission.
I'm seriously considering just shifting to Normal for the rest of the event as it's not worth the hassle for one or two extra items and Medals.

Event complete!

It's refreshing to be able to stop farming and actually focus on quests and clearing maps. Maybe I should try aiming for 4-5 clear along with top 5 in monthly rankings.

Congrats, and GL ranking. I only did top 20 twice, but I am usually top 100 every month.

Another note: Tried out 5-5 with CV route this month, 8 sorties, 2 deadends, 1 retreat on 1st node. Ranked planes + support can take out 3-5 ships before shelling which is nice. Still debating if it's better than sub route, because of stupid deadends even if you can easily kill boss at day without boss support. Although right now is time to be lazy again _(:3」∠)_

I've been slowly chipping away at E-4 easy, figuring I could do that much at least. Turns out the difficulty increase during the final battle is astronomical and there's no way I'm going to be able to win without an insane amount of luck! Garbage exp, virtually no drops; this may have been the worst use of my time in my entire life history, and that is saying something.

I put in Kitakami one time thinking the pre-battle torpedo would come in handy and it missed every single time, lol.

Event is officially over now. I did some extra farming near the end and was able to get 4 Maruyu but nothing else worthwhile. Also did one Taihou LSC to stay below resource soft cap, but sadly the result was only Akitsumaru. Now it's three more days until I can start attempting to build Bismark. Time to prepare for LSC hell
