Well, he says "Strikers 1945" and lists the systems as arcade and PSX. It really could be either 1 or 2. He listed some import-only games on the list, so who knows which game he's talking about. I had assumed he was talking about the first game.professor ganson wrote: Look again at the original list. HE'S NOT TALKING ABOUT STRIKERS 1945 I! He's talking about the US PS1 release, Strikers 1945. But that's Strikers II.
So bVork's original comment misses its target. (Unless bVork is also talking about Strikers II.)
I still stand by my comment... I don't like any of the Strikers games, but Zero Gunner 2 was fantastic.

Fair enough. But given that the authors confuse Strikers for a game in the 194X series and don't mention other Strikers titles, I am doubtful that they are even aware that there is a distinction between Strikers I and II. I think they are aware only of the US PS1 release, i.e. Strikers II.bVork wrote:Well, he says "Strikers 1945" and lists the systems as arcade and PSX. It really could be either 1 or 2. I think the most accurate top 10 out there are the top 10 entries in the top 25 ever we did. A top 10 is also only as good as the sample size, and based on opinions. Of course, ours was broken anyway (ruling out games that should have been acceptable), and a top 10 doesn't cover the most important games, just the ones people liked the most!
Example - Space Invaders. I'd be very, VERY surprised to see that hit the top 10 in our top 25. However, it's probably #1 in a list of the most important. Galaxian would be pretty damn high too, being the first proper colour game (do people even understand how important that game was? OUR GENRE HAD THE FIRST COLOUR VIDEOGAME!), and possibly the first where enemies actually moved around to attack you. Games like Gradius, R-Type, Donpachi and Zaxxon would also be stronger in this kind of top 10, than games we love now.

Yeah, that's a good point that top 25 is distinct from 25 most important shmups. I think for myself I let importance play some role in picking my top 25, but it is only one among many other factors. Really it serves as a kind of tie-breaker. If I can't decide whether I like GigaWing or GigaWing 2 better, I pick the first because it was more influential ATC (all things considered).
