Trigger Heart Exelica for Naomi/Dreamcast

Post by Kron »

Trigger Heart Exelica is a new vertically scrolling shmup from Warashi...

http://www.warashi.co.jp/exelica/exeinfo1.html

Its possibly running on the Taito Type-X hardware since their last game Usagi uses the system.

Can't say I was expecting this...wonder if it's anything like Sengeki Striker?...or any of their previous shmups for that matter?

Well I certainly like Warashi's previous work, but I dunno about a DC port. Methinks that Under Defeat must've made it under Sega's radar before they said "No more DC ports" back in September.

What is "Club Sega", BTW?? (And how can I join! :D :P )

This game looks pretty interesting. It's pretty obvious this will get a "quick 'n' easy" DC port (and may be why it was developed on Naomi instead of Type-X), after Radilgy and Under Defeat making the DC in vogue again.

And dave4shmups, Under Defeat was not in development for the DC, nor planned, before September of last year. So your theory is fairly weak. A better scenario is that Sega recanted on its "no more DC games" statement and is allowing new arcade shmups to be ported as long as they are developed on Naomi (perhaps as an incentive to continue Naomi development).

Publish game in GD-Rom certainly cost less thant Type-X (on harddrive with a hardware key). And there are lots of Naomi systems in the acrade. Shmup games won't need the added processing power of the new Type-X hardware. And since Naomi is capable to out put VGA graphic as the Type-X did, so why don't develop the game on Naomi?

Actually I really don't know why Sega want no more DC games to be published. :? Since Sega doesn't got a new home console in the market, new DC games won't hurt its sale elsewhere. *Puzzled*

Where did you hear this "No more DC ports"? Besides, how could they even prevent people from making new DC games? (Rajirugi too will soon be coming out, btw). As we all know, you wouldn't even need to put games on GD-Rom; all you need is that evil little boot code and you can make games load from standard CD-Roms.

Club Sega is an arcade in Shinjuku, Tokyo. You join by stepping inside ;-D

i really didn't expect to hear from warashi again outside of mahjong shit, great news. of course i would have preferred a sprite based game like shienryu but a non-bullet hell change of pace would be nice.

edit: i also like the fact many little arcade shmup companies are emerging, it shows a niche shmup market is definitely profitable.

Interesting to see Warashi on another shmup, I hope more details will emerge after the location test is finished. I'll reserve the whole "NAOMI + Shooter = DC Port?" thing until we're at least closer to the official arcade release and actually know something about the game. Not that I'd mind 2006 seeing a DC NAOMI shooter port trifecta in play.

Yeah, I got my ass kicked at Street Fighter II at the Club Sega in Akihabara. Well, and Senko no Ronde but that was my first time at that. I did get to enjoy Raiden III, though. :o

Well, good, I hope it's weak and that you're right about Sega recanting on that statement! Still, that begs the question of why Senko didn't make it. :?

@Ceph, last September, Sega announced that there would be no more DC ports.

Presumably it was Grev's own decision, and I'll bet the possibility of online play was the motivation behind bringing it to the 360.

I'm wondering if this was the real Shienryu 2 with a bit of retooling.

Crazy, visually (artistically and graphically) it doesn't resemble Warashi's previous work. Where's all the vibrant colors? Hopefully that's just one stage.

Weird how, even though they're signed up for Type-X, they chose Naomi...

I played 2 credits and kinda hated it. But don't get your hopes down, it might just be me. In any case I'll post some impressions and videos when I wake up tomorrow.

where is this information? All I can see from news sept-oct are two vapourware titles being removed from the upcoming dc games list.

As for this game....I guess I have nothing to say. Haven't seen anything at all.

Now the real reason I'm posting: what is your avatar Kingbuzzo?
