help importing

Post by Dale »

I,ve aquired a perfect condition copy of Ikaruga for Dreamcast. problem is I have an American unit Dreamcast and I can,t play it. What,s the easiest to get to play on my DC I,m nervous about modding. Are there any cheap solutions.

There are very cheap solutions - if you can burn CDRs you can download CD-X demo. The demo is free and legal - the demo is limited in that it only has cheat codes for a few select games but it will allow you to play imported discs on your Dreamcast (and the demo does not time expire). You can search for it - or try here (for some reason this one looks a little different than the demo I downloaded years ago... maybe someone else has another link - I haven't tried this one specifically):

Anyway, the CDX demo does work with Ikaruga and all of the shooters as far as I know. Best of luck - and welcome to Dreamcast Shmuping!

PS - Get Zero Gunner 2 ;)

If you can find a Gameshark CD-X, that'll do the trick. I think that might be the safest way to go. But remember, you not only need the disc, you also must have the memory unit that goes in the back of your controller. Once you get that, all you need to do is swap discs when the menu pops up.

go on eDonkey and download the Euphoria Boot disc for Dreamcast. insert, follow instructions. (i.e., open disc lid, insert Iky.)

Simple. ...unless you have a later generation DC... (since first-run DC's love CD-R's.)

^^^ Utopia, not Euphoria. Unless there's another one out that I'm not aware of.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

Are you referring to a memory card or something that comes with the shark? Also do I need the memory unit to play the demo?

You need the black memory unit, that is supposed to come with the gameshark, in order for the gameshark to even work. After the gameshark loads and the menu screen pops up, you can remove the memory unit and play. You don't need to have it in while you play the game, unless of course you've activated some cheats.
