I bought day one. Love it. I should go back to it.
Re: You really need to play Eschatos
Because I sadly just sold my Xbox 360 about a year ago. If I kept my Xbox 360 and have enough money to buy Eschatos though, I would definitely play it. It looks amazingly fun!Special World wrote:You don't own Eschatos > Why don't you own Eschatos

If it's not crippled with Steam DRM I'm getting this in a heartbeat. Please don't mess this up Degica.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

DOUBLE FUCKING DIPPING.
Also a good shot that Natsuki Chronicles can be released for the PC now too.
It's great that more people can experience this game now.

Re: You really need to play Eschatos
I already know I'm in the minority here, but upon playing Ginga Force again I've decided that I massively prefer the Eschatos bosses. Short, sweet, and intense. There's some standouts in Ginga Force (such as the police car boss, hell, all of level 7 owns) but as a general rule I think they take too damned long to kill and they're a bit dull compared to Eschatos. Some of this could just be the readjustment period, as I remember Ginga Force taking a while to get used to do to its unique mechanics. But still. Not sure why people like them so much more. I've heard that they're more like Judgement Silversword bosses, but I don't see that at all.

I like long epic boss fights
short is not my style. Also their patterns are trickier and more engaging IMO.
Eschatos bosses for me: Stage 2, 4, and final are great. But the stage 1 and 3 bosses feel kinda way too easy imo even on hard. I feel like a good number of minibosses and bosses are also a bit trivialized by certain patterns you can learn (Mirror point blanked by shield for example).

Re: You really need to play Eschatos
Oh, the bosses in Ginga Force are supposed to be long? I thought it was just because I was terrible at the game. Or maybe I still am. Is it normal to be really low on weapon energy for most of a boss fight?
(Should I be doing an Easy mode run first so I can buy upgrades and ish?)
Eschatos coming to Steam is pretty cool, but I payed, like, $80 for the Eschatos/GingaForce double pack, so I definitely won't be double-dipping.
PS: I totally listen to the soundtrack CD in the car!

I don't know why, but this post reminds me of '90s Nintendo Power or EGM or something, and I love it.mamboFoxtrot wrote:Oh, the bosses in Ginga Force are supposed to be long? Pro-tip: Listen to the Eschatos soundtrack in your car for extra gaming goodness on the go!!!
I think generally speaking you're supposed to manage your shots so that both your bars aren't completely drained. You want to let off the secondary fire in a lot of instances, and take out as many smaller enemies (and boss parts) as you can to recharge. Don't be afraid to use your charge bomb if you've got it equipped, either.

The timing of this thread and Blackbird's announcement = proof that there's some kind of magic in the world. Eschatos is one of my most regretted sold/traded games and I can't wait to play it again. Get working on that blog post Special World! <3

I typed it up last night, just gotta add images
Gonna wait until we get a release date and then queue it up for the day of/day before release. It's mostly just a more in-depth rewrite of the topic post.

^^^ They're completely different types of games, though similar in their "I'm not just another danmaku shooter, mechanically or fundamentally" style.
I love both games, though I personally would take Eschatos if I had to choose. Scoring is more fun as is moment to moment dodging and shooting IMO.

Re: You really need to play Eschatos
The final boss fight in this game is just the bestchatos. The way he just like... wills bullets into being during the final form. Wow. M-KAI must have been on some serious shit while making this game, because it's purely visual like a Stanley Kubrick film. There are very few games that are narratively on this level, and Eschatos does it without a word of text.

Re: You really need to play Eschatos
I mostly meant the long final boss rush in JSS. Those bosses take a lot of punishment and are a big difficulty spike. The ones in Ginga Force have a lot of destroyable parts that affect the patterns though so I suppose they aren't all that similar. Hard mode boss fights in Ginga Force are ridiculous (so are hardest in Eschatos but I feel there's much less focus on bosses)Special World wrote:I've heard that they're more like Judgement Silversword bosses, but I don't see that at all.
Always thought it would have been awesome if Mitsurugi Rebirth reappeared as a TLB in Eschatos. Really hoping Natsuki Chronicle ends up getting a PC release too.
Agreed with grooktook, these have very little in common. Hellsinker steam ver with a remix/harder difficulty mode would be sick though.Captain wrote:Eschatos vs Hellsinker.

Re: You really need to play Eschatos
I played a bit of Eschatos for the first time in about a year; the game is really fun, and it's amazing just how similar the game mechanics feel to Judgement Silversword.
The soundtrack is an extremely strong contender for favorite STG OST ever (if not favorite OST period).
My main complaints with the game mainly revolve around the graphical presentation: in the early levels before you enter space, many of the enemies, particularly the missile type enemies, contrast very poorly with the background and tend to blend in. Later on when the game starts using constant perspective shifts, especially during big ship encounters, some of the perspective shifts can feel a bit trial and error in regards to collision and projectile dodging.
When I first got the game I would only play on hard, because I read that was the "true" arcade difficulty, but nowadays I feel less try-hard, so I've been playing normal, and I'm going to slowly work my way up. It might help if I actually use continues though
On another note, I unlocked two achievements for the first time after completing the first space battle against the mothership (despite having beaten this segment before).

I'm going to start playing the crap out of this game. Qute is so great. I think they have really cultivated their own style of shooter.
