How successful is Swiss in forcing 480p/60 with PAL games? I know 480p forcing works on the vast majority of NTSC games.

I don't know, maybe I need to take the plunge and get this Media Launcher thing as long as it's still available. Guess I won't be using a GC if the component cables there go for $260 used on amazon.com

Can swiss force 480p over RGB on a PAL console? That would be cool

Did some digging since this would be interesting and might push me in the import direction.

A component cable modded into an RGB (VGA I guess?) cable does 480p as evidenced by this video's description.

Then I found a NeoGAF thread where someone asked about this and got this somewhat indeterminate response

I'd love to hear from someone here if that's possible.

Reading that second post, it sounds like it's outputting RGBS, which the Framemeister may not accept. A bunch of PC monitors accept composite sync, though, so if anybody has a PAL GCN they should get a SCART to VGA adapter and give it a shot. May need a sync stripper though.

Um, the Framemeister does accept 31 kHz RGBS. This is exactly what people are using with the DC in order to avoid transcoding to the subpar component input.

I didn't know, don't own an XRGB. Maybe the fact that composite video is mixed with the GCN's signal is causing problems, especially since 480p composite video isn't a thing.

Not exactly true, there were many HD-Ready 480p component capable CRT sets available in the States at the time of the GCs release. Hell, the Xbox came out prior to the GC and it had great 480p and even some 720p component support.

You and your US-centric mindset

I was obviously talking about Europe as the topic was PAL GC games not having 480p...

Not in Europe... PAL Xboxes only output 480i and 576i. It's a pure software limitation though and can be bypassed with a modified BIOS.

Thats crazy, seems you guys got screwed that generation, but you had RGB capable SCART inputs on your TVs for years while we were stuck with composite and S-Video. :?

I didnt know y'all were limited to 480i even on Xbox. Thats pretty ridiculous!
