Genesis/MD Power issues

Post by korpse413 »

Not sure if it is within the rules to forward to other sources, but I recently posed my questions here so I won't need to repeat with a lengthy post. I am receiving a lot of advice from 2 guys on that board, so I figure I might as well come to the place I should've first. I will provide the picture timelines here and here, but understanding the problem I am having would be to read the comments between myself and those other guys. Understand that any techniques I am doing in the pictures as far as handling - I am a novice but am willing to learn so please correct me if I am wrong.

Here is the main body of my issue copied from the other board post I made:
'Unit suffering from 'brown out' symptoms until it finally died (no games worked, static sounds, etc). I tested both of the voltage regulators in circuit and got 4v in and 0v out on both. This led me to replace both of them - only to get the same readings. Sanity check some time later gave me .149v in and 0v out, so i'm not sure whats going on. The fact that replacing the regulators only to get the same readings makes me think that wasn't the issue from the get go - unless of course there's a short somewhere? The fact that the voltages read even lower as time went on is even more proof? Where should I look next? I've made sure the board is getting 12v from the ac adapter, just obviously im losing it somewhere along the way. Can it be something as easy as a fuse or a blown cap? None of the caps seem leaky - although the only 'clue' that is visible is a rusty/leaky spot on the bottom RF plate on the lower left corner nearly directly below the volume control knob. Thoughts guys?'

Also, side note, and probable dumb question (no shame) say I break the leg off of a chip, in my case one of the legs from the Model 1 volume knob slider, am I hosed? Not sure if there is a ghetto way I can just jam the broken leg back in, or simply create a new leg? I can provide a picture to show you guys what I mean soon. Thanks
