shmup and other game-related models at Summer WonFes 2015

Post by greg »

A few weeks ago, I attended the Summer Wonder Festival in Chiba. Here's some pics of shmup and other game-related models and figures I found there. These are limited-run garage kits:

There were several non-kit figures on display at the company booths, especially from Muramasa and Odin Sphere. Lots of Vanillaware love at the event. Here are some links:

I guess I'm spilling the beans prematurely since I haven't started the job yet, but I have recently been hired by a major plastic model company here in Shizuoka Prefecture, slated to start work in April. I'm pretty excited about this, especially because I will be in the position to suggest licensing ideas for model kits. I'd love to pursue the possibilities of kits for shmups like Thunder Force, Gyruss, Time Pilot, Metal Black, Raiden, the car from Night Striker, etc.

Man, that's a lovely Dobkeratops. Would love to get my hands on that, it'd go great with my R-9A figures.

And gratz on the new job.

Wooah! Fuurai looks stunning :D and nice with a kit from Senko no Ronde. But I promised myself, no more kits - and that was before I bought the DDP from Kotobukiya

Congrats on the new job :D

Sounds like a dream job, greg! Is it Plum? I heard you were going through their bins. They have the Darius and R-Type licences!

I would like to see RC Berg's Salamander kits commercially produced.

Always fascinated by rocket's work. As someone who went through the difficult task of making a silicone mold once, the way he just rapid-prototypes his mold halves is just genius! No Plasticine or Lego needed!

Thanks. Yes, it does seem that it will be a dream job. Actually, the job is with Aoshima. Plum is located up in Nagano Prefecture, on the way to my in-laws' place. They're a much smaller company. Aoshima is famous for their car models, and they've done models for Back To The Future, Speed Racer, Knight Rider, Mad Max, Cyber Formula, and others. They've never done any game-related models, but I hope to try to change that!

RC Berg didn't have their Salamander Lord British model as they did for the Winter WonFes. They were the ones with the Border Down, Senkou no Ronde, and Xevious kits. Their kits are made of colored resin and seem to be able to be assembled as one would with a regular plastic injection model.

Nice thanks for sharing I was there as well but couldnt be bothered with photographs - way too much to see. There was a stand with a couple of viewpoint models as well but had sold out by 11 and packed up by 12. They were probably the best video game ones there as well.

@greg: Thunderbirds 2015. I know they produced kits for the old series.

Thanks for the coverage and the photos greg !

Funny as this kind of event can fulfil anyone's passion. There are so many types of toy hobby displayed you can't actually see them all.
I went to the event myself too, and I can't remember seeing half of the tables you've photographed ! And I've spent 7 hours there
I guess this is also because I didn't focused on video game toys...

I did find some nice arcade cabinets papercrafts though. Building them at the moment. 8)
