Review samples for magazines/websites are often cherry-picked by the manufacturer or straight out of the lab, not exactly matching the specs of the retail product.
Sometimes for practical reasons (low stock, cost, blah blah)...sometimes on purpose to try and fool the readers a bit.

I have one of those, sending it in for repair as it came with some dust behind the panel though.

G-Sync works fantastically as of the latest driver update, before that it was really wonky.
How did you like blur and backlight glow on that one? Has the lack of VGA and DVI ever been a nuisance?
Blur? Don't care about it, coming from TN I notice it very slightly (it's very minor), but not enough to even bother messing with the overdrive settings or enable ULMB.

IPS is IPS, it's not that good panel tech for dark scenes. Doesn't bother me either. Have a slight amount of backlight bleed in the upper right, but compared to IPS glow it's really almost nothing.

I have no DVI devices and no VGA devices other than the Dreamcast which goes through a XRGB-mini then to a BlackMagic Intensity Pro 4K. HDMI sources go directly to the BlackMagic. Yes, my computer is always on.

I was seeing mentions of ghosting from reviewers as well though...

Thinking about it, the ghosting may be from the overdrive, while without any overdrive, there may just be typical IPS blur? Still doesn't explain zanardi's comment on overdrive working with Freesync...

This is confusing.

That's really helpful, and sounds promising. Getting a good picture without fooling with settings means this should be a flexible monitor.

By default, isn't overdrive set to "Normal?" TFT Central doesn't mention any increased input lag, and only minimal overshoot, when normal OD is set alongside 144Hz.

There's some interesting discussion about the FG2421's "Turbo 240" mode in this topic: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1871279

In other news, while this isn't confirmed by Eizo themselves yet, this Chinese source here seems to claim a 50-144 Hz FreeSync range for the new monitor: http://www.coolaler.com/content.php/525 ... 2%E5%B9%95

Ow wow, that [H]ardforum thread mentions this:

1080p and 27" sounds good for console purists! I'm hopeful something in the 30" segment will appear eventually.

Hmm, so inspired by that thread I tried the blurbusters UFO test and on the 70% PWM dimmed brightness setting I'm normally using I can kinda see a slight "rotating" effect on the 60 FPS UFO, with these vertical stripes appearing to be moving. On 100%, apparently PWM-free, it's a much more solid red and I barely see the stripes, which is probably the more natural result given the panel response time.

The 30 FPS UFO flickers, with 100% brightness producing a double image which gets multiplied the lower the brightness is set.

Guess I'll try 100% from now on as it seriously seems to handle movement better... it feels slightly retina-burning right now but maybe I'll get used to it. Something like 85% could be a compromise as well for my monitor as the effects didn't seem as pronounced as on 70 there.

Out of curiosity I just tried that test on my 2421 here. Running the monitor at 120, with Turbo 240 on and off, it's quite interesting to see.

With 240 turned on, the 120 UFO is a lot sharper, it actually looks like it is jumping out of the screen compared to when the 240 is turned off. Not sure how to describe it other then saying it looks a lot better with it on.

What brightness are you running? Any differences there?

I'm also using the normal overdrive setting, this is quite well implemented on the FS2333 with minimal overshoot. There's also a higher setting which is completely pointless.

My settings

''Gamer''
Brightness 50/100
Contrast 50/100
Turbo 240 On
Contrast Enhancer Normal

''Web''
Brightness 48/100
Contrast 46/100
Turbo 240 Off
Contrast Enhancer Off

Colors are set to 9300 for both. There is also a super contrast enhancement mode, but I haven't messed with it much. I mostly play old FPS games, currently going through Unreal Gold right now. From the thread you linked, it seems like the 2421 is the monitor of choice for such games as the framerate never drops. Yay.

Contrast enhancer is a bit weird, iirc it messes with colors in some ways where bright reds would become much darker for example. It's definitely not just the classic "dynamic contrast" dimming feature.

Just did this G-Sync simulation on blurbusters, ~30 FPS really flickers badly, probably exacerbated by lack of tearing, but not sure how well this translates to running an actual game...

Wow! Brightness at 50 on my FG2421 is eye searing! I use Brightness at 25 or 26 to get good black levels and avoid PWM flicker that kicks in at the lower brightness settings. I also use 6500K for color temp, as 9300 is way too blue for me.

There are a surprising amount of PC games that support >60Hz. Perhaps recent games that don't support 120fps are more surprising. Though getting a recent game like GTAV to run at 120fps isn't really happening right now, even with a 900 series GTX. :?
