I recently acquired a cheap Final Fight pcb off ebay from a seller describing it as "untested". The board itself looks really clean like great condition. Upon booting it I'm greeted to a powder blue screen but I can clearly see the game running. Also there's no music or sfx. It sucks but i got what I paid for. Not giving up I decided to take out my working UN Squadron pcb, and used its A-board with my Final Fight B-board. Lo and behold the game is working with perfect graphics and sound. Actually played the entire game to the end credits and didn't run into any problems. So my Final Fight B-board is good, and its A-board has the problems. I've never repaired a CPS1 board before so I'm kinda at loss where I should really start. Any good ideas?
Sorry for the vagueness but perhaps useful avenues to look into:
guh ... I'd almost go with a bad connection on the colour thing. Afaik this is probably a bad ram somewhere, I *think* you cpu is fine as long as you've got this far...
No sound at all: likely completely crapped out z80 processor and/or broken/missing capacitors.
Good luck! ... crap.... now I want a sf champion edition again...

Spent an hour checking the four static ram chips near the PPU with a logic probe and didn't find any problems. Tomorrow I check the dynamic ram chips next.
Hey man, I think I may be able to help you on at least the music/sound front. Provided the sound chip is all good, replacing the socketed "ROM1" chip cleared up the sound and music as before it sounded like Jessica and the Mad Gear members were having a gang bang with Haggar rooting on for her...Good luck

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. I even replaced the other socketed chips from my UN Squardron's A-board and no change either. I'm sure the sound will come back once I replace the Z80, but those graphic glitches...
