Best settings for NES / Framemeister through composite
I was going to get my NES RGB modded for use with a Framemeister, but I think I'll hold off on that and wait for the HDMI mod to become readily available. In the mean time, I still want to play through a few NES games. Any suggestions on settings that I can try to get the most out of composite? Since we can't get the visuals nice and crispy, I was thinking that going the opposite direction might help. Is there an option to blur things out a little?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
You simply increase the H_SCALER setting to values of 11+ to blur the image. You can get quite an acceptable composite look this way.

Thanks. I'm going to try that right now.Fudoh wrote:You simply increase the H_SCALER setting to values of 11+ to blur the image. You can get quite an acceptable composite look this way.

RGB cable from Retro Gaming Cables killed my PS2's video out
I just receive my PS2 RGB SCART (JP-21) cable from Retro Gaming Cables and tested it out on my original PS2. Unfortunately, the picture had a purple tint to it. After removing the cable and going back to my component cable, I found that the picture was now too dark and discolored when using it with a Framemeister and blank when using it on a TV with component inputs. I switched between RGB and component in the PS2 menu, so that isn't the issue. S-Video still works perfectly (didn't try composite).
So, the cable that they sent me was defective and might have fried something in my PS2. Can badly-wired cables actually destroy a console's components? Is my console a lost cause, or is there a place that you would recommend I send it to? I don't see anyone else complaining about retrogamingcables.co.uk. Was I just really unlucky?

Re: RGB cable from Retro Gaming Cables killed my PS2's video
I've gotten multiple bad cables from retrogamingcables, but from talking with them through email they at least stand by their products. I don't know about it damaging components on your system, which seems unlikely unless something looped back around into the output, but they should at least offer a replacement or have some advice if you contact them.darthjones wrote:I just receive my PS2 RGB SCART (JP-21) cable from Retro Gaming Cables and tested it out on my original PS2. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hi guys !!
Maybe the question has been already posted, but what do I need to hook up an HDMi out (Computer or X360 - res will go from 480p to 1080p) to an Extron Emotia (Dsub 15) ?
Does things like that will do the job :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-HDMI-to-VGA- ... 168wt_1363
or
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Male-to-VG ... 611wt_1109
?
The easiest will be the best

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Most PC's and Xbox 360's already have D-sub out (unless you have the E model 360 which only has HDMI and a 3.5mm jack for composite)fafangus wrote:

And the HD Fury adapters are the gold standard in HDMI/DVI to VGA. I don't know if I would trust the generic adapters you're looking at on ebay.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I have the fat one (x360), and hooked it the both way hdmi (to CII or xrgb) + Dterminal (to xselectd4 > xrgb or others, and the rca plug helps me getting the sound to my audio hub), but my computer doesn't have a dsub out yet (two dvi + one display port), so I'm thinking of getting the two hdmi source into the emotia by the easiest way, I tried to go by the CII (via rgbhv ouput) but the result is not what I expected
If I go :
x360 > xselect > extron 203rxi (my xselect is my hub for 240p/480p) dsub bypass > emotia
Pc > hdmi splitter > hdmi to dvi cable > dvi to vga adaptater (don't know if that even exist/work) > emotia
Does it sound good?
Hope I wasn't confusing
Or I try something like the hdfury

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Actually, your PC probably does have VGA. One of those DVI's is most definitely DVI-I, which can put out VGA with a cheap passive adapter:

The Radeon 290 and 390 are the only cards that don't have DVI-I

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Ok, I've got a Gygabyte R7 260 with DVI-I Dual link + Dvi-D and hdmi, if I use this :

Could be ok ?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
This won't do you any good. I would be surprised if your card did output DVI-I + D at the same time on the same connector.
Displayport can output VGA as well, just for your information.

This one should do the trick :

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
No, don't get that. That is an active adapter, you want a passive adapter that uses the native VGA signal from the video card. Get something like in the image I posted, it literally costs a dollar. The active adapters have a much lower pixel clock limit, and they might have some lag. Plus they're generic so who knows what sort of picture quality you're getting.fafangus wrote:This one should do the trick :

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
oups already ordered...
Well I'll test it, and if it doesn't match, I get another plug like yours (but I think I've got one somewhere...)

The displayport adapter will work, but it will have it's own DAC that is inferior to your video card's internal DAC (which outputs over the DVI-I connection).fafangus wrote:oups already ordered...![]()

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Ok today I've hooked up my stuff to the emotia
So : Pc via dvi-i (dvi-i to vga adaptater) > extron rgb 203 rxi > extron emotia : works very great !!!
X360 > dterminal > XselectD4 > extron rgb 203 rxi > extron emotia : works like a charm !!!
(that way I'm able to "240p" my wii / DC / ps2 / GC / ps3)
In fact at the start I didn't want to connect it that way, but it doesn't affect the way I use the CII or the second computer screen...want to do too much in a way, I messed up my things (nothing important btw)
Now i'm on for a displayport to vga plug (but could serve me for others things if I need to hook others thing to others things... I suppose... lol)

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Having two issues with my JVC hd61z886 and not even their support was able to help.
Sound seems to fluct like it's trying to highlight speech. In Smash the music will lower slightly as the narrator says a character name. I don't actually know if this happens normally and the TV just makes it more apparent but it's worth noting.
The unit has insane overscan. I just want things I force to widescreen (i.e. my Wii) to show the full pixel.

How does the Sony GDM-400PS ranks amongst the GDM line? is it decent?
Found one that works fine, and that is rather cheap so I'm thinking about adding it to my collection.

Are JP21 cables normally a tight fit? I feel like I've been through a workout every time I disconnect one from the Mini-Din 8 adapter cable that came with the Framemeister.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Yeah, that's normal.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
hullo friends.
Well, since I cannot find the original speakers or a good replacement for my PVM 2130/2930 QM, I was looking at the following option: can I use a speaker drive by Lepai 2020A+ and put some higher end speakers for use? Or will this toast the setup or something?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Isn't that like a 2x10w amp in practice? I guess it should be fine as long as you are using small enough speakers...
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I connected a pair of Polk RTi A7 towers to my 2130 and it worked fine, and sounded fantastic.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I bought both a japanese xbox 360 and sega saturn.
My question is how would i go about hooking these consoles up to my rgb monitors? Would i need some sort of jp21 to scart converter?

They shouldn't be any different than any other region. JP21 and Scart are just different pinouts.tacoguy64 wrote:I bought both a japanese xbox 360 and sega saturn.

Do you already use either Scart or JP21? If so, get cables in that type. If not, pick one and get the proper adapters for whatever your monitor needs.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I am already using a scart set up for all my consoles and monitors.
Just wanted to make sure that i dont damage anything using a wrong type of connection.

I have a japanese and European saturn, both work fine with the same European saturn scart cable connected to my pvm (with a scart to bnc adapter of course).tacoguy64 wrote:I am already using a scart set up for all my consoles and monitors.

Thanks guys.
Gonna order the normal euro scart cables then.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Now if I wanted to hook up the said 360 to a sony bvm d20f1u, how would i go about that?
from what i've seen it would go something like this,
xbox scart > sync strike > extron rgb (any model) > rgb to bvm

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
No, are you out of your mind?
It would go: xbox component cables -> BVM monitor. You will need some bnc adapters on back of your BVM hough.
