Scart cables and when to put resistors on the RGB lines?

Post by xga »

Hi Guys,

Bit of a SCART noob here, but when making up your own SCART cables for different consoles, when is it appropriate / required to put 75 ohm resistors on the RGB lines? I understand that it is to reduce the brightness, but I don't understand why you have to do it for some consoles e.g. Sega Mega Drive and not others e.g. Neo Geo.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Cheers,

xga

see here:

some consoles already have them inside as part of the video output circuit so you dont need to add them in the cable end.

from that page for the neo geo:
RGB output circuit: signal comes out a CXA1145/MB3514, through a 75 ohm resistor and a coupling cap.
