PAL SNES RGB help

Post by kaeser »

Hi all.

I'm having some issues with getting my PAL SNES to output RGB onto my PVM. Set up is as follows:

* Sony PVM 2950qm; connected to
* Female RGBS SCART to BNC adapter breakout cable plus built in sync cleaner circuit; connected to
* Third party PAL SCART SNES cable; connected to
* A PAL SNES

I have the yellow sync cable on the breakout adapter plugged into EXT SYNC. When I turn the SNES on the image looks like this

This video might also help show what's going on (the game is Secret of Evermore).

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Judging by the purple tint on your PVM, the RGB input you're using is currently set to Component Int or Ext Sync. You need to change the sync mode to RGB EXT. SYNC in the PVM's menu.

Is this in the hidden service menu? I don't have a remote for this and can't see that option in the 4 main menu sets.

Sorry, I have a 2053MD which is a little different - mine has an RGB SYNC option on the main OSD.

You're using the Line 3 input right? Looking at the manual for your model (https://docs.sony.com/release/PVM2950Q.PDF) it looks like you need to press an "RGB key" on the front panel. Check page 4 of the above manual. If your console and your cable is good, this should immediately correct your problem.

Let me know if that sorts it.

After some reading I think the main problem is that the SCART cable I'm using is not wired to pin 8, so it's not getting enough power for sync. Anyone had experience in does a solder/rewire job a SCART cable?

It's kind of hard to see in these pictures, but this is what it looks like.
