How about a compromise: can we convince PewDiePie to try a shmup while eating the hot shit straight out of Satan's filthy fucking asshole? He probably couldn't talk as much then.

This.

PewDiePie will screech about how "IMPOSSIBLE" the game is, credit-feed through once, and then complain about it "BEING TOO SHORT", further codifying people's ignorant misconceptions about how to play shooters.

If you can get Vinesauce, Jim Sterling, or hell, even Maximilian to play through something, that would be great, because they have a fundamental understanding of good game-design.

Regarding Vinesauce, Vinny mentioned that he does enjoy shmups, but he doesn't play them much since he's pretty bad at them (this was during a stream of Game Center CX 2, where he was playing a bunch of star soldier-esque games)

Joel semi-frequently does obscure Japanese arcade game showcases (he clicks through random games in his ROM fullset or takes suggestions from the chat), and has mentioned Dodonpachi at least once, so who knows maybe it'll show up eventually on stream. I actually saw someone in chat ask him during one of these streams to play Armed Police Batrider or Gun Frontier, but either he didn't notice it or he wasn't interested (Joel did ask him specifically at the end of the stream to email him the games he was mentioning, but apparently nothing came of that).

Well, to be honest Cho Aniki PSX is famous just to be all about homosexuality and machism, just for that (and that boss with the man penis).
But if pewds will decide to play a complicated game like danmakus in the future, surely it wouldn't be great at nor insightful, as is just a channel where he screw around with game just for fun (granted, is fun for 10 years older or people with the brain of one).

Beside, bullet hells is a genre made for Hardcore gamers, people that play that game constantly and with a serious attitude in order to master it, so in not easy find a youtuber famous and skilled enough to show such and generate interest. Normal shoot'em ups are the safest bet about it, as they're made for gamers which invest a little more effort compared to casuals.

Superbunnyhop for my money is the best of these Youtube people, he was super enthusiastic about Crimzon Clover and no-one gave a shit. I don't want PewDiePie repping anything I'm interested in, or breathing.

SuperBunnyhop also gushed over Revolver360, but still didn't garner much interest in the game among his audience.

I'd wanna see the 'Best Friends' play shmups over other youtubers. (on their actual channel, not the machinima shit)

However, they only mention shmups in passing or during their podcast. They seem to revere the genre but claimed they're too bad at/ignorant of the games to actually make videos. Which is fair enough, I guess.

I hate the guy; but on a serious note it couldn't hurt - its not like the shmup scene has a much of a reputation to protect...

The impossible task is choosing one for him to play; presumably one that was relatively cheap/accessible and not prone to being interpreted as loli-weeaboo-shit by youtube.

Would he? ... No idea; ask him.

Oh, I hate this. Those idiots cannot see anything even remotely Japanese without screaming "WEEABOO"

I've even seen actual Japanese people from Japan posting Japanese stuff and being called "weeaboos". It's like the word has lost it's real meaning already.

Did that word ever have a real meaning to being with?

Someone who is obsessed with Japan/Japanese Culture/Anime, etc. and attempts to act as if they were Japanese, even though they're far from it. They use Japanese words but usually end up pronouncing them wrong and sounding like total assholes.
^ From urban dictionary. Not really fond of that site but the description is pretty accurate.

Someone that simply enjoys shmups cannot be considered a "weeaboo".

If you want a good example of weeaboo, check this out.

I find it funny how it was the video Filthy Frank made which started the whole weeaboo "witch hunt" (or at least put it into full swing) even though in the first minute of that video frank makes the distinction between someone who just likes anime or other aspects of japanese media/culture and wapanese (I prefer the old word because weeaboo is a buzzword that has been corrupted past all semblance of meaning), and he even says "don't let a 48 year-old with a camera tell you what not and what to like."

The word weeaboo came from this comic: http://pbfcomics.com/71/

After that comic was released either Something Awful or 4chan had a word filter in place at some point that arbitrarily replaced any instance of the word wapanese/japanophile with the word weeaboo, and it kind of grew from there apparently.

Yeah I am aware of that, but it was the Filthy Frank video which really put the word in the mainstream, to be corrupted and used in retaliation to the mention of anything remotely Japanese.

"Weeaboo" had been used for shitposting on 4chan since its conception but it was that video that encouraged the word to be spammed just about everywhere.

To be honest, before I seen him on Southpark, all I had to go on was that name and the fact that apparently half the internet thought he was awesome.

Then I seen him... and my suspicions were confirmed.

So yeah. The name is perfect. I have to concede: he did very, very well in telegraphing to the likes of me exactly what to expect from his "work".

Keep it up, humans.

Here's the list of friendly, loli-free entry level shmups that pew can start with.

After going through millions of shmups, I've managed to narrow down the list. Hellsinker and Akashicverse would also be additions, but apparently 5% of the game contains anime characters so yeah.

-Divine Sealing
-Gwangedash
-Soldner X (and sequel)
-Minecraft

Interesting how you mention that, because before I found out about the LPer I thought Pewdiepie was some sort of alternate name bronies gave to MLP, because of how frequently the two were mentioned in conjunction with each other.
