DVDO iScan VP30 and Dreamcast question.

Post by Snucka »

Hello I have a chance to get a vp30 with the precision deinterlacing card upgrade for 106USD and I am curious if this will work with my dreamcast vga box to hdmi. How it would look and is there much lag? Anyone have any personal experience with this set up. And what other systems will work with the vp30. Help me justify the buy. Lol

The VP30 is great for 480i sources (PS2), it's fine for 480p but probably not better than a TV these days (from what I heard anyways).

If you hook up a Dreamcast with a VGA box directly to the VP30's analog input you won't be getting anywhere since the VP30 can't handle the Dreamcast's 480p signal on that input. No idea if there'd be a difference when going for the HDMI input.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

What consoles would the vp30 be good for. And the vp30 does have that deinterlacing card would that not maka a difference dreamcast-wise. My tv is a 2013 or 12 Samsung smart tv not sure what model. 47 inch. I just want better than a
Composite video for my dreamcast and what not . my tv does not have a vga input and I got a vga box. I'm new to all this I always just played all my consoles via composite.

DC on the VP30 will look quite good. Scaling is a bit rough on the DVDOs, but at least you get full resolution and you get full aspect ratio control, which is especially useful on the DC, as it displays too narrow on almost all TVs.

As ryu's mentioning, in order to get the DC working on the VP30 you have to add a RGB interface between the two.

Input lag is minimal (6-7ms) for 480p sources. $106 for a VP30 w/ ABT102 is excellent.

Sorry for silly questions but what is a rgb input and how much would that cost. 106 is already exspensive for me right now

A RGB interface is a little box which has a RGB input and a RGB output. It does standarize the RGB levels and retimes the sync signal. From $20 on eBay. Look for "Extron RGB"

Worst solution.

What's your benchmark ? How have you connected your DC now ? Do you want it to look better than now ?

I mean right now it's connected through composite. So if I got the vp30 what else would I need to be playing my dc on it. And what else would I be able to do with the vp30, like what other consoles could I be able to hook up to it.

Or... What is the cheapest alternative to all of this

You should use it, and see if you're satisfied with the picture you get.

DC w/ VGA Box > Extron RGB Interface > VP30 > TV.

Cheapest alternative is a straight VGA to HDMI converter that doesn't add any scaling. It won't look any better though than a direct connection on a LCD with a VGA port. And not all VGA converters work, so buy at someplace where you can return the converter in case it doesn't work.

What other consoles would I be able to hook up to the vp30 and what would I need to do the other systems. Cause if I'm going to get this exspensive processor I want. It,to work on my other systems aswell

Assuming your TV's scaling isn't worth much, the VP30 is good for everything. The only thing you'd need would be the right cables. If a console supports component out (PS2, GCN, Wii, Xbox) you can just plug a component cable and be done with it. For consoles that don't support component (pre PS2 era), most of them support RGB out. In those cases you'd want to go with that, but most RGB cables come with a SCART output, and the VP30 doesn't have a SCART input. Some cable shops sell RGB SCART to BNC adapters though. With one of those you'll just need a couple of plugs to go from BNC to cinch. That's easily another $30 btw

Here's the SCART to BNC cable I was referring to https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/son ... verter-bnc

If I wanted to be cheap what would be the best vga to hdmi converter.
