Odin Sphere is one of my favorite games of all time, even though I can easily admit it's terribly flawed (to the point that I almost never recommend it to anyone else, or at the very most do so with very strong caveats if I'm directly asked about it).

Holy shit though, did I just see platforming in that video? I'll be interested to see how they improve this. As a crazy deranged fan, it's probably an instant buy either way for me though.

My Vita just stirred slightly.

Very interested in this, although I failed to get on with the original PS2 game. Do some serious optimisation and I'm definitely game.

Liked the original game a lot. I seem to recall it being really difficult though, I don't think I ever finished it 100%. I hope they streamline the alchemy system. That system was interesting, but *really* tedious when you needed to create more complex potions.

This definitely interests me. To the point where it's starting to actually get attractive to get a Vita for this, Muramasa Rebirth and Dragon's Crown.

From what they shown (there was a live gameplay demo), just about everything gameplay related has been completely overhauled.

Seems they've implemented a more Muramasa-esque structure and feel; interested to see how it turns out, since the PS2 was never quite powerful enough to handle it back in the day. I also wonder if the company's signature budget considerations are as much of a factor as they've been in the past...

Amazing news, always felt it was kinda obscure as alot of friends of mine never even heard of the game when I mention vanillaware it was either dragons crown or muramasa they thought of, would be the icing on the cake if they released Princess crown remastered as well in ENGLISH...I would wet my panties

I was told both slowdown and loading times were significantly reduced in the PS2 PAL version (neither gave me much problem anyways). One game that made me glad to be there when it was new.

>New Enemies
>New maps
>Alchemy system will be redone
>You don't have to replay stages
>You can teleport between areas
>Fighting system has been readjusted and looks more like Muramasa style fighting *can put some CUHRAYZEE combos*
>OST will include rearrangements but also new songs from the FFT composer
>Faster response when crunching and moving
>new animations when using items
Thank god they're reworking a bunch of stuff. I played the PS2 version for a few hours and thought it was crap, aside from Vanillaware's usual 10/10 aesthetics. They've slowly been getting better with every game they make, so this should be good if they can implement their current know-how to fix this game's problems.

I read this was going to be sold at full price in Japan (around 7,000 yen). It's quite expensive for a HD remaster.

If this is half what it promises to be, it'll be worth it imo. Day 1 PSV&PS4 for me. Hoping for US physical releases, with Atlus I'm not to scared of digital only though.

That said, casual players are probably going to weigh whatever the PS3 version will go for in the US against the frequently on sale for five dollars PSN classic version. That might be a problem for Atlus.

If you happen to prefer the original game a straight HD port of it will be included too.

I really don't like this animation style where you split up a sprite into several regions and just move them around according to the movement you want to portrait. Feels cheap and looks that way too. It's fine for larger sprites, but on human sized characters? Nope!

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Don't recall Odin Sphere ever doing that for any of its player characters.

I never played the game, but that's what the animations for the HD port look like to me.

I would agree that Vanillaware's characters do have something of a "puppet-y" look to their movements, though I don't know whether there's a technical reason for that perception - in any event, I personally don't mind it, but I can see why others might not dig it so much.

I don't see it. Giant monsters are the only ones I see the effect, otherwise the pc's in both versions look like any other high detail singular sprite.

It would be nice if this played even 1/8th as good as the game looks. Maybe I should give it another go. Haven't tried Muramasa or Dragon's Crown yet either.

Even though the super fun adventure story and awesome atmosphere is really my favorite part of the game, I actually enjoyed Odin Sphere's gameplay,

But that's because I accidentally skipped the part of the tutorial that explained how to level up your damage, and so every boss battle became an utterly intense gauntlet from hell where I was forced to utilize Garegga-esque strategies and alchemy combinations.

Otherwise it's kind of repetitive grinder with way too many repeat boss fights. A little bit of polish could have vastly improved the game though, so this does looks promising.

I'm interested in this. I played through most of the PS2 version and while I liked it, between the repetitiveness and slowdown, I burned out before finishing it. I'll probably be playing this on a Vita so I hope it doesn't have much slowdown, but going by Dragon's Crown, I'm kind of expecting a bit.

It feels cheap to you because you are a child - a child with a child's understanding of the process involved and the restrictions imposed. A profoundly ugly, grotesquely large, hairy, unloveable child.

I do love Odin Sphere's story, especially how there are five separate viewpoints that intertwine together to create a brilliant cohesive whole, but I do agree that the battle system is a little clunky and primitive compared to the simpler, faster-paced and more fluid nature of Muramasa.
I also found it difficult to work with the alchemy system when you have such a limited amount of bag spots for gear/materials/ingredients.

Indeed. I'm also a fan of how the 5 stories are told non-chronologically, it gives a greater sense of scale to the adventure and a feeling of piecing the story together bit by bit.

I liked everything about Odin Sphere, including the gameplay.

Well with one exception, I hated the status effects that could stunlock you until you died.

I think the shadow puppetry animation style is kinda high concept.
